This is for all you people that dont bother to read your manual or warranty book, another quote from warranty book 08 KK pg51"if you do not meet the minimum maintenance requirements for your vehicle, your vehicle could need costly and inconvenient repairs.Your new vehicle basic limited warranty REQUIRES that you perform the schedule maintenance at the times or mileages shown in your owners manual.IF YOU DO NOT SO,AND YOUR VEHICLE FAILS AS A RESULT OF YOUR FAILURE TO MAINTAIN YOUR VEHICLE PROPERLY,REPAIRS OF THE FAILURE MAY NOT BE COVERED UNDER YOUR WARRANTY."

we get it dude...you are a by the book person who thinks thats the only way of doing things...its fine for YOU, stop preaching what is right or what is wrong...because frankly we are both right...

if you bothered to notice i don't care what the manual says, my oil says 1 year, your book says 3-6 months or whatever...we will keep doing it the way WE want, its a personal option neither IS WRONG...which you can't seem to get...and i;ll point this out one more time, so you understand fully, I DON'T CARE WHAT THE MANUAL SAYS, I DON'T NEED A BOOK TO TELL ME HOW/WHEN TO CHANGE THE OIL!!!! :D

Mike-I hope you changed you air intake, because with your pic of you KK in deep water, when you hydro lock your engine,it wont be covered under any circumstance.I cant wait until you and your 1yr oil change buddies blow your engines and are told to come up with the money for repairs. You guys are making it look like I wrote the manuals,You have a lot to learn, you must be a rookie when it comes to warranties.

richd ... get over it. You should learn to read my post as good as you read your manual. I work very close to ExxonMobil and a few other oil companies. I've seen more oil analysis test then you can imagine. I know more about oil then I really care to know. Also I'm personal friend with the owner of a Jeep dealership. I can get anything I want warranted so don't worry about my engine. I've tried to be nice and I'm done with it ... SHUT UP!!! Your manual preaching is getting really old and if you haven't noticed NO ONE CARES.

I'm done with this thread ...

for someone who was a mechanic for 25 years, you don't know anything about oil apparently, makes me wonder where you actually worked.

so because we don't change our oil every 3-6k miles, we now break laws aswell...LMAO that has to be the DUMBEST thing you have said, i mean wow.

the only one who thinks they are better than everybody else is you...get over yourself and please leave the thread because you are contributing nothing good to it.

this thread just got out of hand

I beg to differ on voiding the warranty with an Intake... an intake nor a programmer/chip will void anyones warranty.

As far as the oil changing goes, I dropped off my kk and it will be ready at 4pm... 25 bucks for the oil, filter change....and my dealer is going to wash, wax AND update mygig software for free!!!
I guess they love me! Im special... my mom told me so

I'm usually just a bystander but I have to add my 2 cents. I was an oil change jockey out of high school and have been an industrial mechanic since 1995. Granted I now mostly deal with hydraulic and gear oil but the same principles apply.

Tolerances and heat make all the difference in the world. Also very important is cycles, meaning starting from a cold stop to operating temp and then shut down. Stay away from the heat and short cycles and you can stretch fluid intervals quite far. I've got hydraulic pumps running full time that get their oil changed once a year with no problem whatsoever. I've also got the same kind of pumps that only operate part time and they have to have the oil changed at least 3 times a year. These are identical setups just running different amounts of time as production requires.

As to my own vehicle this is what I do. I'm not saying it's right or wrong but it work for my Camry, Jetta, Civic and now a Liberty. I do the first two changes rather quickly. Around 1500 miles and then around 5000. After that I do it twice a year regardless of mileage. I only have about a 5 mile drive to work 5 days a week so the miles only really add up to about 8500 a year with small weekend trips thrown in.

Could I go 12 months between intervals, probably. But this is how I do it and it's worked out fine. Sure an oil analysis is the only way to see how the oil is holding up, but I'm sure that most of the people involved in this discussion would know doo doo oil just by the way it looks coming out of the pan.

darn, I'm running on here, but here's the bottom line. Do what makes you comfortable. Maybe short intervals cost a little more but maybe it's worth it for the peace of mind. I don't remember who said that they have someone else do their oil changes because they were always thinking they may have done something wrong. He's going for peace of mind. There's nothing wrong with that as far as I'm concerned.

geene- I worked for the Government, mostly on Police cars. They dont put dummies working on police cars when the officers life depends on the work that the mechanic does when hes on high speed chase. You will have a heart attack when I tell you we changed oil every 2k miles on police cruisers. You and Mike are giving out false information when it comes to warranty, and dont want someone following your BAD advice, and having them lose their warranty because of you and Mike. Now are people going to listen to a real mechanic, and Chrysler,or some whatever you do advice. You must think you get a manual for extra weight in your vehicle.I never in my life ever heard someone that ignores what their warranty says and not follow it.Arrogance comes to mind. What part of under no circumstance dont you understand?I think your 1yr oil change is due lack of knowledge.

I know I said I was done but ... lack of knowledge ... Do you know how to read richd? Really ... Do you read anything besides your manual before you post? My family has been in the oil business for 20 years. I know more about oil then you could ever know. I have national reps from ExxonMobil on speed dial on my cell. I've called everyone of them and they all say the same thing ... If you are using a quality Synthetic Oil (like Mobil 1) and a quality oil filter (like Mobil 1) and you don't have harsh driving condition, like extended idling time, and you change you oil less then 12K or once a year you are waisting your money.

and you say they DON'T put dummies to work on police cars? Maybe they need to do an e-val on someone .......... They change their oil every 2K because a police car is always left on and idling for a long time is not good.

Also I never once said anything about anyones warranty. You really need to go back to school and learn to read.

nothing is false about our information...just you can't accept it...simple as that...

i've told you what me and other people do with our oil changes, i;ve never once tried to push it on others, you are the one trying to push YOUR ideas on other people...YOUR ARROGANCE is the only thing in this thread...none of the information in this thread is false...so please stop trying to act like you know everything...because you've made it obvious that you don't...

the only lack of knowledge in this thread is yours, quiet simple you need to actually READ SOMETHING OTHER THAN YOUR MANUAL...you might actually learn something...here is alittle something i read recently, a recent study on NYC taxi cabs *probably the worst abuse a car can go through* showed that there is no advantage to changing the oil at 3k miles or even 5k miles, there was no decrease in protection or an increase in wear.

Mike08Liberty - why bother, he obviously doesn't read what people have to say, he would rather not learn anything from this, and just spout off more of his nonsense and also attempt to insult me or yourself.
