this is probably very simple but to me it is very very strange. I just got a new antenna and mount and had to wire it myself, and I think I frigged something up. When I blow my horn I get a burst of static on the cb? could this just be a grounding issue or did I frig up the live/ground? I'm thinking I'm gonna get a new coax cable with a pl-259 or something on the end to simplify this whole thing.

it is a grounding issue. I have the problem with my radio getting my read out on my cb. It doesn't really bother me...
Just ground to a new bolt and try it again!

Can you post a picture of your antenna and mount...

Best way to get clean (no interference ) power is to connect to the battery direct.
No looking for a hot wire behind the dash. Most (nearly all ) live wires are there to serve something else, which usually means that you will get interference from that item.
