Hello from cincinnati Ohio

I just passed the 1,000 miles and I get 22mpg on the computer 50/50 hwy/city and ac on.
18.5 - 19 gallon for 440 miles when i got at the pump.

When i went to the dealer to get the GPS unit in , i talked to a liberty's owner about fuel mileage. He had 13,000 miles on it and told me he when to florida cruised at 1,800 rpm all the way down and got 37 mpg ..... not sure i could stay at 1,800 rpm all the way :-)r

First part of August Helped some friends move from Rock Springs WY to Austin TX. They have an '05 Sport CRD that had 9K miles on it when we started, and I took turns driving the CRD. Here's two legs of the trip we kept track of.

Laramie WY to Trinidad CO. 4 lane secondary from Laramie to Fort Collins, 1/2 hour stop and go in Fort Collins, I-25 thru Denver, 45 minutes stuck in stop and go rush hour in Denver, on down I-25 to Trinidad (just short of NM state line). 532 miles, 17 gallons, just under 32 MPG.

Trinidad CO to Amarillo TX. I-25 to Raton NM, 4 lane secondary to Amarillo, slowin down to 45 and 35 mph for small towns, 20 minutes stop and go in Amarillo. 295 miles, 7 1/2 gallons, just under 34 mpg.

Amarillo to 30 miles outside Fort Worth, fighting 30 mph crosswind, 29 mpg.

At the time I didn't own a CRD, but after helping put close to 2K on my friend's, I was amazed and fell in love with the vehicle, especially climbing 6 percent grades at 70 mph in 5th gear!

Last Saturday, traded in my '04 Dakota 4X4 and '01 Mazda Tribute for an '05 Stone White Sport CRD. Best part, I'm a DaimlerChrysler employee (Freightliner), so I got the EP price anyway.

Oops, getting dyslexic in my old age, that should have been 235 miles, 7 1/2 gallons. just under 34 mpg.

Ain't that the truth! :)

Went out there to help my friends move, getting to test drive the Jeep was a side benefit. I've known him since '81 when we were stationed on the same ship together (both of us retired Navy), just like a brother to me. Was best man at their wedding in '83, and get along just as well with her. Both the 16 year old daughter and 6 year old son (already 4 1/2 ft tall, size 4 shoe, gonna be a tall handsome kid :D ) call me "Uncle Mitch".

Just a local test drive at a dealer and looking at the EPA rating would never have convinced me to go to the expense of trading, even though I have been interested in CRD's since they came out. Getting to drive one real world for several days, seeing what that diesel was capable of, both in performance and fuel mileage, how well it rode and handled in some really rugged terrain, and how comfortable it was on an extended trip, that's what convinced me. I was on the computer as soon as I got home, seeing what was available at the local dealers.

When we figured out the fuel mileage from the leg to Amarillo, I made a comment expressing my amazement, replete with four letter adjectives. My friend laughed and asked when I was trading in my Dakota for a CRD. I replied "As soon as I (expletive deleted) get back!". After 30 years of getting their rears kicked by the Japanese, I just couldn't believe that an American OEM, in particular the one I worked for, had finally come up with a real winner.

And i don't trade cars on a whim, if they're good I'll keep them until they're worn out, I hate being in debt and making car payments. My first car was a '79 Mustang I kept for 9 years, my second was an '87 Subaru wagon that I still have. The fact that I traded in my '04 Dakota, which I loved and had only had for a year, should say volumes about what I think of CRD's.

Changed my oil last week with Mobil 1 0w-40 and took a 400 mile trip over the weekend. Averaged 29.5mpg on the entire trip! I'll get almost 600 miles from this tank full.

I'm pondering getting a CRD myself.

I'd like to see more MPG reports posted. 8)

You will not be disappointed in the mileage. I was getting 23 average running the ORM and A/T tires, now I got the Green Diesel tune I am getting at least 26.

Just stay off the gas pedal and you'll be fine.

Maybe that is why this thread died nearly 4 years ago. . .

Had my CRD for nearly 9 months now. No matter what I do I can get no more that 21 MPG average, hand calculated. Through the various mods I have done, I have gotten excited looking at the EVIC and seeing occasional 32 mpg readings. Even with conservative driving after installing the Edge TrailJammer...still 21 MPG. I know there has been discussion about odometers and speedometer being off by as much as 10% and that may be so but... still 21 MPG. If I were to go on a long road trip I am sure that would change somewhat but most of my driving is 70/30 % Hwy/City @ 70 MPH. Maybe the quality of fuel has somthing to do with it as well cuz I always go for cheapest price. I just think the little bit of city driving I do really ruins fuel mileage.Any thoughts?

I'm not sure how to necessarily fix the problem (release the parking brake? ), but I can imagine that many would suggest getting a GDE tune. Some people have had an EGR valve get stuck in the open position, but that usually throws a code and might trigger the CEL. I typically drive about the same proportion of Hwy/City was you and I get around 25 if I take it easy. The quality of fuel could be an issue. In general, it's going to all be from the same refinery as those tend to be regional. For gasoline, the additives package is specific to the brand of station (Shell, BP, Marathon, Total, etc). For diesel, I don't think the additives package is quite as extensive and there probably isn't anything that's going to raise the cetane value substantially higher from one station to the next. You might see a difference between premium diesel and the regular stuff, but it probably won't be astronomical. It seems to me that diesel here in MI isn't quite as good as that in KY where my parents live. Refiners are only going to meet state or local requirements, so it could be a region thing independent of your Jeep.

When we first bought our CRD, we were getting 27-28mpg highway without trying. A couple years ago, the mileage started going down until we couldn't do any better than 23-24mpg in summer and 21mpg in winter (and that was even with a Suncoast installed). I sold the CRD to a buddy of mine. A couple weeks later, it tripped some EGR codes and the EGR was replaced under Max-Care extended warranty. In addition, he upgraded to a GDE tune at about the same time. With the combination of that fix and that upgrade, he's now getting 30mpg easily on the highway. It's hard for me to believe that's the same vehicle that was so fuel-thirsty when I owned it.

Could this be ULSD related?I only ask because I get better MPG with WVO then USLD,when it was 500PPM I would get better MPG on #2.I think this is why I am getting better MPG,I have a higher cetane rating then ULSD.Any input by bio-diesel guys on this matter?

B20 to B50 runs the best in mine. I buy regular dino fuel, and then go the bio place and fill it the rest of the way (sigh, when I get around to it). B20 is great-- more power, quieter, better mileage. Anything over B50 and I see the mileage and power start to go down noticeably (lack of calories I suppose) but it still runs quieter and smoother.
