Antenna

I was looking for a new antenna. Like one of those big ones and I was wondering do I need a CB to get one of them? But I want to relocate it at the back and I was wondering how could you do that? has anyone ever tried it? thoughts?

I'm curious, if you don't already have a CB, why would you want a CB antenna?
Or maybe more to the point, why would you need a "big" antenna?

If you're just wanting to relocate the standard radio antenna, I'm sure that's do-able. There is very little to do with Jeeps that hasn't been modified somewhere, somehow, by someone.

yea I wanted to relocate it. I mean I think im going to get a CB here soon when I have some more income.

Relocating your AM/FM antenna is different (mostly, as I believe there is a combo antenna out there) than mounting a CB antenna. They are not interchangeable.

Are you having reception problems? Installing a snorkel? Why the move?
If you have a roof rack (or the factory rails) you could probably move it up there without too much difficulty (involves fishing wire up the post though).

You can buy a splitter and use the CB antenna for a CB and radio.

if you talkin bout a dual band antenna cb/am-fm check out INC's gear in the stock location

if you want a 'BIG' cb antenna

get a 102" steel whip off the rear gate, or a 4 fiberglass flexible whip off the roof, or a 5 foot off the back gate or front bumper

those are about as big as you'd be able to go without having a mobile cb BEAM antenna

We have been using CB antenna's for a long time to use as a radio and cb antenna. No issues with reception with either. no issues with transmitting either.

I want to relocate it for looks, But I am probably going to get a CB sometime in the future. But I want to mount it 1.) on either the front bumper near the turn signals or 2.) on the rear bumper on the passenger side. I also want to use it for radio use

problem with both those locations is that youll have trouble grounding the ant trust me i know because i mounted mine in the exact spot on the rear that you want i ended up moving it to the hood using the same mount as JLrockies

i had trouble grounding on the gate the one time i did it, seemed to pick up alot of fuel pump noise but apparently your experience may vary as they say!

several around have ran gate antennas and voiced no problems /shrug!

if you run a ground strap to the front chassis behind the fascia you shouldn't have too much of an issue grounding from the front bumper

The ongoing beauty of this site is... I did not know the two antennae could be so easily combined. I supposed (I guess wrongly) that the tuning of the CB antenna would interfere with the reception of the AM/FM receiver.

i always figured that too

but.. after INC and some of the others posted their great results with it, i mentally stand corrected

it's atleast an option if i decide to start fitting into a garage again

You can find the write-up for replacing the stock radio antenna with a cb antenna and using both in this section.

AdamisAdam was the first to do it. I followed up with a better looking version of it, and then a couple others did it making even more improvements on it (looks).

When tuning, don't focus on the antenna tuning screw (if you get one like that), use the splitter adjustment. Mine has never been tuned but have never had an issue yet.

What sort of trails do you run?
I have a magnet mount K40 antenna on the top of my Libby. It's great for transmission & reception but on heavily wooded trails with low overhead branches it gets knocked down.

I've seen a few clever ideas where a 3' fiberglass antenna is mounted to the spare tire mount. Maybe that would work for you.
Myself I would mess with the combo AM/FM/CB antenna idea of a full size 102" fiberglass whip, but that's just my preference.

You just buy a CB antenna. AdamisAdam and I both used a Wilson Silver 3' antenna on the stock radio mount (additional work to make it fit).
