i wouldn't necessarily call it neat

i'm personally friggin ticked off, to replace an entire hazard switch in the dash that's probably 100 bucks or more, in comparrison to replacing a 3 dollar flasher relay should there be a problem?

There's a crap load of relays under the dash on the drivers side, but i can't find a mapping of them

so far i managed to resolve the fast flash problem down to this

no fix = flashers flash fast all the time with LED bulbs in my stock tail lamps for stop, turn and backups

confirmed there is no flasher relay (there is a 15A fuse) - flasher relay is integrated into the hazard switch on the dash

I plugged into my trailer and the blinkers resolved themselves except when i press the brake then they go back to fast flash which seems to tell me that it's picking up the brake light loss of resistance so now i gotta figure if it's possible to add resistance to the brake light system through the trailer plug but I don't think it is

but that does seem to signify that if you put led brake light bulbs and turn signal bulbs in, if you were to splice in resistors to fix the problem you'd have to do it across both the brake lights and the turn signals

If it's possible to add resistance to the brake light system through the trailer plug as well then the resolution would be to plug in something with the appropriate resistance across the circuit into the trailer plug, the item would have to have a ground strap to the chassis since most trailers get their ground from the hitch ball not the plug

Any ideas? Trying to avoid the whole jumper deal

so i ended up using resistors on the trailer harness to stop the fast flash turn signals

which works fine.. as long as i dont press the brake

put resistors onto the brakes behind the tail lights and they still flash fast when i press the brake :roll:

anyone else got any ideas?

I jusy deal with it. I haev an extra switch here at the house I bought online. It has 2 relays in it.

get you a ticket for what? I think you need to read you state statutes on vehicle lighting. I fought the issue of neon lights in Florida and had to go to court, I won. From that day I kept a copy of the statute in the car for any other inquireries the LE would have for me.

I am pretty sure that in NC there is no statute that says a turn signal has to flash a certain rate nor has a flash rate high and low. I would love to be driving through NC again and get pulled for my lights flashing too fast. There is a reason the lights flash that way, it was mandated by the EPA and DOT and that trumps any LE in the nation. Most LE cannot even find a law or regulation to back up the ticket.

in north carolina it's considered improper equipment

rarely ticketed, but they can pull you at will to harass you about getting it fixed

very similar to the fact that I have NC Plates on my jeep, and the state of IL feels that it's perfectly fine to pull me over and harass me because I don't have a licence plate on the front of my vehicle but since NC doesn't require front plates there's nothing they can do other than pull me and harass me about it

In anycase..

what's the flasher link about, is it a LED compatible flasher or is it for when my flasher burns out since the fast flash is known for causing an accelerated wear on the hazard/flasher unit as well as heating fuses and blowing fuses causing loss of turn / brake lights etc which..

WILL get you a ticket.

Arguing about regulations and what not doesn't provide a solution to the issue. Thanks for trying, but doing nothing is not my intention. I've actually resolved the problem as of about 15 minutes ago.

No the link is to a OEM switch that you said probably costs $100, it doesn't. Also if you don't stand up to what is wrong then it will continue to be wrong. I pick and choose my battles and win most of them. You have to have your docs in check before you can go in front of the law.

if i have a part that (may) prematurely fail because of abnormal function due to something that I've done to cause it to function in that manner, and get rear ended, pulled over and ticketed, or inconviencned

regardless of the law in relation to the type of bulb

I caused the problem to occur by not doing something to correct the symptoms

not to say that it wouldn't have happened at a later date with stock bulbs because it certainly can, however if a risk or situation exists and you're aware of it and do nothing, in some stretch, even if only your personal conscience, you're liable

LED's for bulbs, Heck yes! I'm all for it

Should you apply the appropriate resistance back to the system in whatever manner to prevent the flasher from prematurely failing or a fuse from blowing

what is the labor for installing it..

So it sounds like you may have solved the issue?

Replace the emergency flasher switch/relays with a unit that handles LED's correctly?

Is there such a unit? Is it the link you posted for the $38 e flasher the correct one?

no such LED (or Heavy-Duty) compatible unit exists

I added resistance to accommodate for the difference in ohms between leds and regular bulbs in two different locations to correct two different fast flash symptoms

In correcting the brake down fast flash, one of my earlier assumptions was proved wrong and it very well may be possible to correct the entire system through the trailer harness so I've sent a suggestion/request to the guy that makes the LED fix units for the TJ's with an idea that i'll gladly buy and try

My reason for buying the switch/flasher was to send it to the LED supplier to see if they could replace the relays with a proper e-flasher. I still have it here in the closet though.

I have been pulled over for a burned out headlamp, with a new headlamp in the front seat, returning home from the parts store I managed. I was given a ticket for the lamp being inoperative, $56 and 1 point. All I needed was a t-15 driver to get t he lamp out and replace it. I had one at home and was getting it as soon as I got the lamp home. It was not my truck and I was only driving the truck to get the light for a friend of mine. I saw the same GPD cop in the store a week later and when he asked for a LE discount I said no, we do not cut breaks for anyone, it is the rules. Smiled, gave him his change and told him to have a nice day. He then asked where my truck was and I told him again I do not have a S-10 pick up, I only borrowed it to fix my friends headlight for him because he did not know how. I was followed by GPD for 2 weeks after that, every night I closed. Karma is a witch.
