Just had my 2nd water pump go out on 05, first failed at 12k and second at 33k.
Anyone else had water pump problems?

I have the 70k power train warranty so for the 100$ deductable --this time it's cheaper to go this way -this time.
Looks as if a spanner is needed to take off the the pulley in front of the water pump--how much did your pump cost?
Look fairly easy -any special issues involved in the change?

I'd stay away from any waterpump gotten from advance auto, auto zone,or checkers. They just don't last.Believe it or not the OEM pump will last longer but with mass production you will get bad ones but not a bad one all the time like those neverlast(duralast) or airtek pumps.

At 118,000 miles seemed like I should replace the timing belt, inspection revealed mine was getting loose. While we were in there we figured why not get the water pump along with some bearings/ pulleys etc? Kinda made sense while were were playing preventative maintenance.

I got my water pump from NAPA, they generally have good replacement parts....but you guys are scarin me as usual. Hope I didn't throw away a good one and replace it with one that will fail in some unforgiving place.

Unless you have a CRD or the 2.4 gasser you do not have a timing belt. The 3.7 V-6 uses 3 timing chains which should not need replacement until at least 150,000-200,000miles.

My water pump went at 20,000 and I haven't had any more issues with it and I have over a 109,000 miles now.

My wife's '04 has 126K + on it. I was considering doing it last summer just so it didn't go out on her at some inopportune time, but I haven't yet, and it doesn't leak at all yet....so I"ve left it alone!

Mine went out somewhere between 40K and 60k. Was under warranty. Got it replaced and have had no trouble since.

Still at dealer waiting for timing chain cover and water pump, at least it's only $100 deductable under 7/70 warranty and I will get fresh fluid to boot.

Well, hope my NAPA water pump will be ok, it's on there for now regardless. I've had good luck with them over the years. I was on the road storm chasing and picked up some of what I needed at a dealer in Garden City, KS. They said they were one of the dealers getting shut down and didn't have many parts. Something to think about when going cross country.

tjkj2000.... I have the 2.4 - 4 cylinder with a belt... right up front under the inspection cover behind three small screws.

It's been a great little engine with better gas mileage than the 6 cyl. It does have issues with summer heat though, loses both gas mileage and power above 90 degrees...was 105 here today. I hear there is a temperature sensor that can affect that???

There was a little play in the water pump...and we haven't done anything other than routine maintenance to the thing, so I just pulled the trigger and had the mechanic change it (I was too busy). They said it I was probably just paranoid and that it could have gone longer, but I didn't want my wife getting stuck on the side of the road and calling me!! It had a little bit of play, but wasn't leaking yet.
