OK, so I got the factory t-case skid plate. i got the factory hardware to install it with. it came with two little plastic bags. one bag has 4 bolts and 4 nut-insert looking things. the other bag has a specialized bolt which i assume is used for threading, etc.

So how do these things work? do you put the "nut insert" in first, then use the specialized bolt to mushroom it out and hold it in place, and then mount the t-case with the standard bolts? is that how you do it?? i've never seen hardware quite like this before. actually i think they are the same as the ones for my tranny skid but i don't remember all these pieces.

You got it right. I think (it's been a while) you use a wrench and a ratchet, and try to keep it as straight as possible. They confused me as well, but they are on now.

Good Luck!

OK, I got it installed. Thanks guys. Now that I know how to properly do it, I'm going to get some more hardware and re-install the tranny skid. Apparently I didn't get all the hardware I needed with the tranny skid and so we didn't know how to put it on properly and that's why the nutzerts have always been loose on it. Now I know you have to use the special bolt to mount the nutzerts first...and then mount the skid plate with the bolts. Makes a lot more sense....

Glad to hear it worked out for you. It's one of those things that is hard to explain, but once you figure it out you go "Oh, I see". I must've sat under my Jeep looking at the hardware for a good 15 minutes or so before the "lightbulb" went on in my head

Those nutserts suck! I installed the stock tcase skid on my girls KJ and the first time I nailed it it came loose! I ended up taking these two ~3" long self tapping bolts and using those on the Xmember instead. Just drilled through the top of the Xmember, and tapped them in there. Now it is much more solid than it was with the stupid nut-serts.
