Can someone direct me to the post that showed how the wheel well liner was melted back together after hammering down the pinch weld? I've looked 'till I'm blue in the face and can't find it

Thank you for the info. I guess I'll "rattlecan the crap out of it" this weekend

I heated mine up cut the plastic in a V shape then beat it down and melted the plastic back over the beat down pinch weld, looks better than just cutting it out

I cut mine out neatly, pounded the pinch back, and then filled the void with asphault under coating (thick like tar, took a few layers to get it flush with the wheel well). End result is nice and clean, can't tell anything was done unless you cram your head right in the wheel well and give it a good look and feel.

Melting the plastic gives a nice finish as well, but I did mine back in early 04 and had never seen that done or I would have tried it myself.

Vans are off the wall, if you didnt remember

So, why exactly cant I fust grind the pinchweld off? Not like the pounding the pinchweld out doesnt compromise the rigidity of the vehicle. Right?

O.K. I'm an old Hippie, and I have no idea what a "van" is. PLEASE...what the hell is a "van"? I reallize this is off topic, but I won't work on my 'toys' in 'flip-flops' (move slow anyway, much less after a few shade-tree beers) and suspect vans are not appropriate "shade tree mechanic" gear either.
As far as the pinch weld, I suspect grinding off the pinch weld would eliminate a structural component (weld) that could result in a failure of some kind, especially under the stresses of wheeling, but I don't know.
What I do know is my son is coming over Saturday to help me lift my KJ. I'm bringing the Corona and he's bringing the limes (and impact wrench). It doesn't get better than that. I'll let ya'll know how it goes.
John

No worries Im an old hippie as well, just had to conform to the Mans way of doing some things

Just beat the pinch weld over don't cut it off as it will weaken that area. Good luck with the lift they are easy to do, have done several by myself and have helped several do theirs ( much easier doing it by yourself without a bunch of "kids" around but....

Oh Vans are a type of shoe , cheap Converse looking maybe, only they price them like they are special or something, all about looks

Vans use to be popular with the skateboard crowd, not sure about that any more.

<----Wears flip/flops when not wearing work boots. Because they won't let me go barefoot everywhere.

I've never owned Van's. Guess I just never wanted to be Jeff Spicoli that bad. Also, there wasn't much skateboarding or surfing out in the farm lands around here. 8)
