I'd be willing to bet if you had your air pressure up you could make it through the sand better.
Looks like a lot of fun!!!
For sand you want wider tires and low psi to further widen the foot print.Dropping the psi's to about 10psi would have helped greatly as would keeping steady momentum.
Looked like fun, maybe next year for me.
On my last off-roading trip to GA I was playing in some sand dunes and had my PSI at my normal 35lbs. I didn't have any issues in the sand. Come to think of it, I don't think anyone really aired down on that trip and everyone seemed to make it though the sand fine.
From my understanding of sand play you want to keep the momentum up so that you "float" on top of the sand. I don't really see how that is possible if you air down. Airing down makes the tire flat and to me seems like it would be harder to "float" with flat tires.
Airing down provides a wider base for the tire to distribute the weight of the vehicle on top of the sand and "float". Less opportunity to dig in than with a narrower track. GA sand tends to be harder. If you go in some of the sugar sand there in florida you'll see how important it is to air down. You'll literally sink 5 feet from the trail head.
