I pulled the head on the CJ and have a few choices as to where to go from here...

The cylinder's all look good and there's nothing wrong with the block SO

Should I take the head in to a shop to get resurfaced and get a valve job ( have the shop clean, re tap holes, provide gaskets, do what they need to do with valves ) for ~$300

OR

Should I just clean the head myself and replace gaskets ( head, manifold, thermostat ) for approx $120.

Is it worth the extra piece of mind to just take it to a shop and get it done right ?

take it to the shop if your going to be running the cj like it should be run  if your going to be taking it easy and dont mind if it doesnt run like a top take care of it your self. i would personally pay the extra 180 to have the pro's do it

What made you take thing apart?

Well if the reason has anything do with poor running or blow gaskets, get the head checked.

If it passes, have it cleaned and min work done.

If it fails, then do what it takes to fix it.

2 cylinders ( 3 and 4 ) failed compression test - head gasket issue.

Dropped the head off at a shop this afternoon - should be back by Wednesday :D
