Thought i'd ask here, can we get the pages archived.
Say by setting the last page as 1 and the new pages as 173 etc. That and/or sectioning the pages in blocks that are accessible, say 25 page blocks or 50.

Something we ( i ) can sift threw for information browse. It is completely inpossible to browse 173 pages when all we can look at is pages 1 2 3 4 5 6 7... 173. all the middle is basically blocked unless you have 6 hours to play.

i understand some info may be outdated or irrelevant if to old.

Just a thought startng the last page at 1 would keep info on pages for the life of the forums so forum members can refrence it ( go to page 124 for headliners etc).

I know when someone adds to the topic it will jump to the front but after an amount of time the topic will settle and or be locked ( by a admin for being several months old?).

Search is ok and helps but it is not fantastic and if your like me i like to browse if i get time like when i first joined or just to read.

If anyone likes this idea please say in comments so the admin can see if there is any interest beyond mine to a little reform.

If they want to waste there time "fixing" something.

Just an idea i had searching threw the forums posts.

EDIT: I'm asking for most or all forums not just this one

I don't believe that we can do that with our version of PhBB. I believe that there will be an upgrade coming in the future...

As for the search function, it is a PITA. What works some what well is the old "boolean phrase" ( link your target words with 'and', or 'or')

Example: A search form "Frankenlift instructions" comes back with 2,878 hits because the board is looking for either word Frankenlift, or instructions. If you search for "Frankenlift and Instructions" you only get 24. Much easier to find what you need.

I'm not a web designer but the Boolean 'AND' function should be the default. It is not. Instead the Boolean 'OR' function is default. Therefore when you type in 'jeep liberty rocks' into the search engine it is as if you had typed 'jeep or liberty or rocks' so that it searches for pages that have any of those words, not necessarily all of those words. However, if you explicitly type in 'jeep and liberty and rocks' then you will only see pages that include all of those words but not necessarily in that order or together in the same sentence.

Yes it would be nice if the search defaulted to an 'and' condition so that it would only return topics with all of the terms listed, but I as mentioned it doesn't appear possible with this version of the phpBB software - at least not easily changeable thru the admin controls. On the matter of sorting the thread pages again it is an inherent issue with phpBB; there is a control at the bottom of all threads that will allow you to sort the thread from the newest or oldest post (oldest being the default):

I'll look around to see if I can find anymore tidbits but for right now that is about all I can tell you.
