Never mind, I just re-read your first post and saw it was 95. Hard to recognize without wall-to-wall traffic.

One thing I don't see in the roadside pics - an oil slick. Are you sure the car vented all the oil? There is a *little* on the front grille, that might have come from a ruptured intercooler, but with it on its side like that, there should be a black lake leading downhill to the wall. 6 quarts is a huge puddle, ask me how I know.

I'm still interested in the engine, but I think I may take a run at my block first to see what I can get accomplished.

It was I-95 S, MM 85. Agreed on the oil, only some might have leaked out. I didn't see it before they spread the kitty litter, When the tow guy righted the jeep oil streamed down the outside face of the RF wheel.

The stuff inside her phone was Mobil 1 for sure. It was so slick the guy at the AT&T store couldn't get the sim card out. Now thats a good oil!

Luckily (for me only) I was able to slam on the brakes as the Salvation Army truck took out the guy in front of me this weekend...

Good to hear the KJ did it's final job well.

Thats about where the oil was heaviest after my turbo ate it and leaked while I was blowing out the manifold. Its possible that just the turbo oil line got broken in the wreck, that line has 60-80 psi of pressure when the engine is running and (I believe) is the main cause of why my #1 cylinder failed - Lack of cooling lube to the piston head. Since my engine idled for 20 minutes before destroying itself on the test drive, I am hopeful that yours would have been able to idle without doing too much damage. The pistons wouldn't need the cooling at just an idle.

How big was the kitty litter patch? My oil slick was about 3' in diameter when it lost everything.

She asked about it yesterday, they said to discuss it with the claims adjuster who will be on the case in 1-5 days. We do plan to buyback and part-out if it will work for us financially.

geordi- I don't think the litter patch is a good metric of how much oil spilled out because there was a very large amount.

I'm sure there was a lot of it, the fire guys (or the wrecker) will usually do anywhere from 6-12 inches more diameter around a puddle to ensure they get it all, and possibly a depth of more than 2 inches also for the same reason. Litter clay is cheap, environmental messes aren't. 8)

Keep us posted about the buy-back, I drive through your area all the time going between Savannah and Boca Raton. Hopefully we can work something out if things work out... I've got lots of tools....

Per the suggestion of another member I started a feeler thread to gauge interest in parts if we do a buy back. The level of interest and approximate part value will help us make the decision when the numbers start flying.

Yes Wrangler STs. When we bought the CRD 15,000 miles ago I was displeased to see that they were a new set and I couldn't (at the time) justify immediately replacing them. Now after 15,000 miles they are worn enough to be retired. We talked about putting on a set of Michelin LTX M/S two weeks ago. My outlook on $$$ vs. tires has changed somewhat and If we bought that same Jeep today it would get new tires tomorrow. On Tues her TDI went in for tire balancing and yesterday the shop ordered tires for my old Benz.

We now have the buy back numbers. The buy-back price is just over $1500.

However, insurance will pay for the state sales tax on the 7.3L I bought but won't pay it if we buy-back the CRD.

Therefore, our buy-back price is about $2500.00.

This price is higher than I am willing to pay for it, I was thinking that it was worth buying for $1500 but the extra grand is a deal breaker.

I will not notify them of this decision until around COB today...

Travis

Maybe PM Sir Sam to see if he would be interested. It'd be a long haul for him to get it, but from what I know he is a wizard at fixing things up and putting them back on the road.

Water. That is what the hydro in hydroplane refers to, FYI.

I got wrapped up in fixing the door locks on my new truck and missed the fedex. Will finalize the no buy-back in the A.M.

I can't decide whether you are just trying to be provocative or not. If so, *&^^&* you. If not:

As stated, the accident occurred on Interstate 95 in FLORIDA. If you couldn't tell from the photos, it had stopped raining by the time I reached the wreck site and took the photos. Now here is the part I assumed most drivers might understand: interstates in Florida are build in such a way that water will drain off. Standing water only is on the road during heavy rain and drains off after the rain stops. DUH!!!
