So when I put the KJ in 4hi there's a clicking noise from the driver's front wheel...when I put in in 4lo the nosie is louder and more frequent. There's np noise when in 2wd. What's the diagnosis?

I am no expert but I would think that perhaps it is not fully engaging. Either that or something else is wrong with the front dif/linkage. When you put it in 4hi are you moving forward when you do it? I think someone on here suggested rolling backwards after you engage it once...but I could be mistaken there. I know the old 4x systems you had to roll in reverse a bit to disengage it.

CV ???? when you put it in 4 wheel drive puts more pressure on the CVs and if they are bad it can make a clicking sound

ok i recently had a noise like that in 2 wheel drive it turned out to be my rear diff this might be your front dif if thats the problem i got the parts for 650 threw my buddys shop and he did not charge me for labor it will probably cost at least 1500 from a place with out a discount more at the dealer

if there is a wine nose then this is probably it if not then it could be somthing els ask some one you can trust to listen this is not a cheap fix

X2. Clicking from the front only when in 4wd is a pretty good indicator of a bad CV joint.
