Hey all,
I know another front driveshaft question, but search isn't turning up what I need.

My problem is: Front Dif and Front Driveshaft leaking from the front drive shaft seal. It is enough the while I was cleaning the underside of the KJ I could smell the dif fluid and it was caked on all over.
I have about 1/2in of play when turning the front driveshaft but other than that it is solid.
I am not getting any symptoms while driving it.
I checked the dif fluid and it is running a little low but not enough that I am going to add more till I get it fixed or it gets lower.

So what else should I be checking for?
What am I going to be looking at changing?

Places to purchase items?

Thanks

Are you sure it is the diff. If it could be grease I think the drive shaft has some grease in it where it mates up to the Diff. Odds are that it is the diff though. If you are lucky it is leaking at the axle shaft. The seal is about $20 at the dealer and pretty easy to replace. If it is leaking at the pinion seal, I think it will require you dropping the diff, removing the carrier and replacing the seal. I'm no expert, but I think that will also require you to put a new shim in, reset bearing preload, backlash, etc. One of the other guys who are familiar with that will speak up soon though.

Does it look like this?

If so, don't wait too long to fix...

Take it to a car wash and clean off the engine compartment really well. Make sure you spray all over the diff/axle and the R&P steering. Then wait a couple days and see where the leak is really coming from. It could be the seal on the top of your R&P. Mine leaks and it looks like my diff is leaking :)

I washed it really good yesterday and will be keeping an eye on it for the next couple of days for the leak.

Had to much mud under there to try to isolate the leak.

Still no issues driving it, haven't pt it in 4wheel drive though.
