Hi,
Anybody know if an 06 CRD with factory tow package has wiring in place to install a brake controller for towing? How difficult is it to install one? Most of my other vehicles that had factory tow had all of the wiring set to go to install one. I hope this is the case.

With the factory towing package (from the factory, not dealer installed) there is a blue wire behind the drivers side kick panel with a tag saying "brake" But you'll need to tap into the brake light switch and run a hot wire and ground from the battery to your controler.
Here's a link for you.

Once you find the legendary blue wire (took me hours) you have two choices. Either hardwire the harness from your brake controller to the vehicle, or install this connector, Mopar part number 05019922AA. This is a repair kit that contains the Dodge factory brake controller connector.

If you install the Mopar connector, then get the Dodge harness that should be available for your brake controller, and plug it in just like it was a Ram. I did this for my Grand Cherokee and it works like a charm.

Great info. Will I have to run a 10-12 guage wire from the battery to the trailer wire plug too or was this done in our vehicles? Those brakes need some serious amperage from what understand.

I got my finger cross that our tow trip trashes our Jeep which will give me justification to by a v6 TDI toureg.

That's what the blue wire is. You will still have to run a power wire. I've done it two ways - put a blade male on a wire and insert it into the rear fog lamp relay feed (on the interior side of the relay box) or run a fused link directly from the fuse box terminal under the hood.

Why not just sell it to someone who wants it?

Are you talking about the wire for charging your camper battery? If so it might be there. If your talking about the brake wire then no as it's the blue wire and is plenty heavy enough.

I believe that he is talking about a power wire to feed the brake controller. The blue wire is the output wire from the controller to the trailer.

My trailer connector does feed 12V to charge the battery on the trailer. Already wired and working from the factory.

I had a 30 Amp extra wire in the connector by the driver's door that is for the aux light bar that most don't have. If you have a light bar, then run a power and ground from the battery directly.
If you don't have the light bar, power is right there.

The power for the aux light bar comes from under the hood, fuse 12, 30 Amp. It is a constant feed.
The other end goes to the big connector by your left foot, driver's side, connector C100. Circuit or pin # 60. It's a 14 AWG Red wire (circuit A904). Pin 60 is on the top-right. The connector pin numbers are marked on the connector, but be warned, they are very tiny numbers molded on the connector.

Hook up a test light to pin 60 and it should light up. Go pull fuse 12 under the hood and it should go out if you got the right wire.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out.
