I'm sure many of you will remember me going on about how I can't do any labor myself. Oh how I've changed. A buddy helped me out and I did my first brake job last night :) Pads, rotors, and a pair of slides :) I'm quite proud of myself, especially for saving the coin :)

Lots of difference, you break parts on a vehicle but you replace the brakes if you want to stop sometime

just messing with you

Did you do the rear drums? Or just the fronts. Hope you bled the system. I like the Motive brake bleeder system. One man (or woman) job, no assistant required in the cab pushing the pedal.

Nope, didn't bleed them, from what I read and what I was told you don't need to bleed them every time you change the pads. And yes, only the front, the rear was done maybe 6 months ago?

I had a professional check mine this morning, wanted to make sure it was right since it was my first job. Didn't cost me a thing since for him to look either lol.

Gives you a sense of satisfaction doesn't it to be able to do something like that by yourself.
Over the years I have helped out a lot of people who have wanted to learn how but never had anyone show them the basics.

Same way a lot of people don't know how to even change a light bulb in their home. Nice to do things yourself

Good job Obihann!!! 8) :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

The rear disc/drum rotors can be tough to remove. I tried once and gave up, I wound up taking the Liberty to a local garage for them to do the job for me.

I'm amazed at the stuff I now do since owning a Jeep. Once upon a time I could only brag that I could change my own oil & filters. Now I find myself replacing the clutch plate or installing a locker in my driveway.

I had a guy do mine, he showed me how but I will never do them myself, waay too much headache it seemed. Then again, I said I will never turn a wrench myself and look where I am haha.

I would love to say doing this work myself saves me money but really it doesn't. I saved 2 hours labour at $80 a hour doing this brake job myself, but I spent that money in new hiking gear lol. More toys same money lol.

Congrats, always a positive when you tackle a job fo the first time and learn a life skill.
My first brake job was on a 72 cutlass, all drums, rebuilt the wheel cylinders and all.... I hated front drums, never could get them adjusted so they didn't pull to one side or another.
Oh, I heard Tom is still trying to figure out how to change that light bulb....  he can do a lift in his sleep, but can't change a bulb... hahahaha

I never could do the brakes on the KJ. Did the Challenger, no problem. Did my 1990 Dodge W250, no problem (well, some little problems, but I got them done). The Jeep? Disks were welded to the hubs. Nothing I tried would get them off, spent hours on it. Used Kroil penetrant, used a fist maul, used wood blocks and the power steering, used the weight of the vehicle, used a borrowed drum puller. Nothing worked, and the drum puller and wood blocks broke. Good thing the puller was warrantied!

The shop I took it to said it was one of the worst stuck on sets they'd ever seen, but they did get it apart.

I can't work on the Jeep at home any more (HOA rules about work in the driveway are getting enforced, and the garage is otherwise occupied right now).

Serious congrats on getting yours done.

My passenger side rotor was stuck on real good, and my buddy pounded out 2 wheel bolts trying to loosen it lmao. My rear drums were welded on too it seemed lol. I can't work in my driveway since it isn't level, so I just use my parents garage haha.
