And now CARB comes up with these totally false charges that diesel particulates promote lung ailments, cancer and such. The California Media already proved the lead scientists repping CARB are quacks and fakes ( Dr Tran. CARB's lead expert bought his PHD for $1000).

Arguing the above is like arguing that silicosis isn't caused by silica dust, black lung disease isn't caused by coal dust, and snorting asbestos does the lungs a favor.
Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are carcenogenic. Much study has went into figuring out what chemical structures actually compose soot particles. PAHs are among them. Tiny particles are especially bad because they can penetrate very deeply in the lungs and become irreversibly embedded. People with lung problems and asthmatics are especially sensitive. The CARB dudes aren't the ones who came up with this.
We do need organizations like CARB, but we need those organizations to be reasonable in determining what kinds of regulations are needed and enforcing reasonable methods of implementing them.
...I wasn't specifically referring to diesel particulates. Any soot particles containing PAHs are bad. It doesn't matter at the source is. I'm surprised that only 7% comes from diesel exhaust. The ones you can't see are the worst in terms of health effects. Diesels have that "black plume out the exhaust stack or tailpipe" stigma that makes people look to them first.
I hope to see more diesels out there in the future. I love mine. But I'm not a stick my head in the sand type of guy when it comes to environmental concerns. In an ideal world, they would be able to tune the engine to burn everything as completely as possible and have a non-urea based catalyst bed to knock-out the NOx and chuck the EGR valve. We're not there yet.
