I have the 1.5/2.0 daystar lift. No bumpstops. Rancho struts/shocks.245/75 tires. It was worth every penny. The rears springs are finally worn out. 40k and I tow a lot of firewood. Way over 500lbs on the tongue. The only thing I would do different is buy 215/85 size tires next time. I don't need that wide of a tire on this Jeep.

That just proves that the OEM coils are junk.I had 41,000 miles on my rear SkyJacker coils holding up a extra 700lbs(at least) with no sag and that weight is always there(RL bumper,carriers,HiLift,90lbs spare,200lbs of tools,Kilby skid).

Daystar says their 2.5" lift doesn't fit the CRD because....I don't know.

Maybe they are covering for possible CV angle problems.

....it does fit.

The 2.5 isn't recommended because it's way too easy to tear the CV boots while installing
same reason the 'CRD Frankenlift' dropped down to OME springs only
The driver side is a very difficult install - but once it's together it works.
but you're putting a 2.5 inch spacer and the top plate gives about 1" more clearance so you're compressing the spring about 1.5" - at 410 lbs/in - that's 600+lbs of force to assemble the struts, and you've just lost 1.5" of travel before you stack the springs.

The preload on the springs isn't what kills them - there's no difference to the wire in the coil between compressed by a spacer or compressed by holding up the weight of the Jeep.

The difference comes when you hit metal to metal - that locally exceeds the yield strength and causes permanent damage.

but preload - will change the performance characteristics of the spring - it it's a 410 lb/inch spring and you preload it 1.5 inches
it will not move if you put a 100,200, or 300 lb force on it - you've stiffened it so that it won't move until you put more than 600 lbs on it.

Yes, I did read that. All the 2.5 inch spacer lift kits say that they wont work with the CRD. According to ATXKJ, 5 posts up, It is because of the tight clearance with the CV boot. Whether or not the 3" spacer will work on the front, I don't know, but would like to hear a qualified reason why not.

Mostly during installation those 2.5"+ lifts(any type) are prone to cut the drivers side inner CV boot since it gets real smashed against the bottom of the strut assembly and there's no way really to prevent this..Plus during max droop the drivers side inner CV boot can touch the bottom of the strut assembly tearing it also. One guy here tried the RK lift and kept cutting his drivers inner CV boot and removed that lift all together(can't off the top of my head recall his user name).

K, thanks. I'm really starting to lean towards saving my pennis and getting a spring lift latter in the year. The only down side to that though, is that I have to buy tires soon and would like to have the tallest tires I can get but 245/70 is the biggest which it will currently fit.

Has anyone had any trouble getting alignment shops to align a lifted rig? My local farm and fleet which installed a tie rod end for me last week, tells me that they wont do lifted rigs.

I've lifted and aligned many KJ's,my "real" job is a A tech at Firestone.Takes about 30-45mins to align a lifted KJ(depending on amount of rust).Toe and camber is easy to get back in but sometimes caster is harder but as long as caster is close to spec and even side to side it's a non-issue since caster has zero effect of tire wear.

I posted this question in TonyCRD's article in the tech section as well.

I hope that this question isn't totally stupid, but: How does a spacer lift compress the springs more than the factory spacers? From what I understand of this type of lift, the Daystar spacer simply gives additional height under the spring, compared to the factory spacers. The weight on the springs and extension of the springs still look the same. The shock is extended slightly past normal but, I wouldn't think that that would pull down on the spring. With extended bump stops, the springs shouldn't ever be over loaded beyond what they would normally be exposed to in the OE setup. What am I missing?

The shock doesn't extend -

it's at maximum length with the stock spring and no spacer

(actually the spring is slightly compressed stock -
that why you need a spring compressor to assemble/disassemble it)

Ah, ok. So the strut can't extend past the factory length.

If you want to do this lift once...and enjoy the ride...AllJ's and order the OME (Old Man Emu) lift kit with the proper struts and shocks. It is worth the ~$850.00

The springs are made to handle the extra heftiness of the CRD front end.

I hope this isn't a dumb question, but...does the emu lift improve the ride on hard surfaces. I do no offroading, but am interested if this lift improves drivability.

I had a 2002 liberty that came from the factory lifted slightly higher than the later models, due to rollovers. It looked better and rode better than the lowered models IMO.

Yes the CRD Frankinlift will make your KJ handle better on road, even better if good tires are used also.
