re-treads??

Retread tires have a more stringent standard than the OEM manufactures to meet before NHTSA will allow them to be sold.

retreads have fairly stringent standards - but they're voluntary

monitoring the tire pressure is easily an order of magnitude more important than whether it's retread or original.

I sold tons of tires while working at Wally World.
Previous posters are correct. The big chain stores have them made so their different enough that you are almost forced to go back to them for a replacement.
Goodyear doesn't have to make them cheaper in price, they only have to produce more of them so W/M can buy them cheaper.
I've been looking at these tires at my local W/M.
I wouldn't be afraid to have them installed on my Liberty.

I'm not a fan of W/M, especially having worked there but I think some of you guys have swallowed the bait the big tire companies are shovelling. :shock:

I like my Goodyear dura-tracs and I think Goodyear is trying to be more of a major player against lesser tire companies. Lets face it they have been camped out on the MTR for EVER!!! Now, more aggressive styling and new ideas. I like it.

I really think that Walmart and Goodyear are doing a market study to see how well this particular tire does before putting it in all stores.

WRONG!!! i work for Goodyear and that crappy tire that wally world is selling is a club tire (meaning they only sell in wholesale clubs) that Goodyear only makes for walmart and will NEVER see the light of day in a Goodyear Gemini store. sorry to burst your bubble

oh yea, and btw that tire is modeled off of the blue streak patiot... how many of yall have heard of the tire company blue streak. Goodyear bought the chinese based company about a year and a half ago. chances are blue streak is making the tire now under the Goodyear name since technically they now are Goodyear.

There are a lot of situations where less than premium tires (and prices) are appropriate.

but you do have to be aware of possible problems and choose whats correct for your driving.

Uh............I think everyone has forgotten what the original question was. KoolJeep just wanted to know if anyone has tried the tires and, if so, what their thoughts were about them.

One of the reasons I joined LOST lo, these many years ago, was so I could gather information without fear of constant ridicule. Back when I bought 'Libby', our model of Jeep wasn't even considered 'Legitimate'.

So...........Can't we all just get along? :oops:

I'll admit that I have been looking at these tires also. The design looks good. I hear what everyone is saying and I too have a manufacturing background. But the main argument here is that they are "Cheap" tires. I'm not sure I agree with that statement. The Authority 265/75/16's are $160-170ish each. Take a gander at what the Truxxus tires that everyone on here raves about. What do they sell for at Summit... same price. Heck, even a Wrangler MTR w/ kevlar can be bought on sale at a TRUE tire store for $200. Someone just posted a sale for those in the DC area on here recently.

Now I know that no one on here is saying that a Truxxus Super Swamper is a high quality tire, but there doesn't appear to be any issue with people running them.

With that said, I am not a fan of walmart (having been on the recieving end as a vendor). However my experience as a supplier to Walmart wasn't that they said "Send us crap, just make it cheap". They held us to grueling price standards and moderate or better quality standards. They would not accept junk from us.

Bottom line, I will be buying tires in the next 4 or 5 days and this tire is in my top 10 list if I stay with 16 inch rims. If I decide on these, I will report back what my experience with them turns out to be.

little more open in the center section. Probably a little more noisy, not quite as good in snow, possibly a little better in mud. Just my opinion. I'm an electrician not a tire salesman though.

My 2 centavos, based on my experience with several sets of Goodyear tires: The tire in question looks reasonably aggressive. Without a real in-the-mud/rocks test I wouldn't stake my adventure on them, as the Wrangler Silent Armor tires by Goodyear appear to be fairly aggressive for an AT, but side-by-side with the BFG AT KO's did not perform as well in muck.
I realize people want to 'hate on' Goodyears based on the stock tire (the minivan things on KJs, and the GSAs on TJs), but those tires are on there with an eye to performance for the federal mileage standards, etc. And they have nothing to do with the tires that Goodyear makes and sells.
But Goodyear makes some solid tires. And I'm likely to go look at those tires for an option myself. And what's wrong with WalMart?

Yes, they have some very bad labor practices and they run small locale stores out of business. But they do have a very large selection of "STUFF". As for the tire in the original post: time will tell how they work out. Myself I like the looks a lot.

So has anyone tried these tires yet?
I have been to two Walmarts looking at them and to three Goodyear stores here in Toledo to look at the Duratracs and 2 had never heard of them, one had and said he couldn't get them ( oh there was one sitting in the show room while I was there)
Walk into a WalMart and they are helpful, tell you the price right away and do not say "You don't want anything but a AT on your Liberty"

So thinking of going to WM over Goodyear since most of the salesmen do not know what they are talking about.
By the way over 12 years in tire shops from mounting them to management/owner so I know the BS they try and feed customers :wink:
