Does the speedo work now where it wasn't working before? If so, you know you fixed the problem. The codes just need to be reset. Disconnecting the battery may work, but the better way would be to pickup a cheap code scanner (good to have in the toolbox anyway) and clear it legitimately.

Check the wiring at the rear diff sensor, they like to fray inside the connector.

i have a scanner. and yes the code has been cleadred...that dosen't matter though because if it was the sensor the speedo would be working again anyways even befor a cleared light... I'll get him over tonight and check the wiring...so the connector of the rear diff all the way up to where it enters the body?

Yeah check all that wiring and more so check the wires where they enter the connector that plugs into the diff sensor.

James, give me a call if you need to come test the lines out. I got a bag full of test equipment and no equipment to test since my truck got gutted for repairs. shouldn't be difficult to see where the fault is, Probally can refurb it too.

FYI

Most "el cheapo" scanners only work on engine codes. They won't clear ABS or airbag codes
