The past week I had noticed that my Engine Coolant Resevoir Tank a little low... I also notice I had some antifreeze on the side of my airbox Due to the Serpentine Belt catching the antifreeze and spitting it onto the airbox.... I thought that I had a loose clamp on one of the hoses. So I tightened them down real good...
I had mentioned it to tommudd and he checked everything while the engine was running etc..... Everything seemed fine and looked okay...

Well Today (two days later) I was at a gas station and went inside to pay... Came back out and had antifreeze FLOWING from underneath the KJ...  Well I was only a block from home and tried to make it.... I went to turn into my driveway.... but the jeep wouldn't turn.... :( No power steering.... THREW the belt....

Anyway..... I called mudd..... Then Napa.... Then my girlfriend to pick me up.... I had the old water pump out of the jeep by the time Erin picked me up.... So it wasn't too bad of an ordeal....

The old water pump has 3 cracks on the plastic piece.... and something rattles when you shake it...

Same thing here! I didnt throw the belt I was just leaking fluid. I am at 196k miles. I had some cracks in my peller and that same rattling when shaken. Instalation was very easy and if I would have known how to get the fan clutch off it would have gone even faster. From start to finish I changed both diff fluids and water pump and cleaned up after in 3 hours. This is a common fix and it should not be taken lightley. The leak pretty much just happens. It doesn't give much of any warning. So dont dread it. The instal is easy and enjoyable!

 No I mentioned that because Tom is a former mechanic... and know's a whole heck of a lot about Jeeps....
So if anyone else with high mileage experiences the same thing it will be easier to diagnose... Both of us knew it was leaking but there were no sure signs of the pump going bad before it really went bad....
I hope that makes tom feel better.... Sorry buddy...

I'm at 56,400 and mine was starting to go. I had the dealer replace it under waranty (in addition to a transmission flash which has been great!) Anyway, mine was giving me signs of going bad about 6,000 miles ago - very faint squeaking noise from the engine at idle. The very same thing happened a while ago on my '90 Cherokee when she was at about 80,000 miles and 10 yrs old. It's fine now.

If there is one thing I have noticed over the past year on the KJ forums it's that you OHIOn's sure are lucky to have Rev. Mudd in the house! :D
