Who's running a Kerma tuned CRD? The liberty has started giving some EGR issues as of late and I'm trying to decide the way to go. SEGR and a chip later or a reflashed performance tune with EGR turned off.

MTB_TDI runs with a Kerma tune.

What would be the advantage of a Kerma tune over the Inmotion or Green Diesel tunings?

The reason I give it the nod is because you recieve a programmer that allows you to tune/untune your vehicle whenever you like. I'm not thrilled at flashing a ECU honestly though.

I didn't even realize Kerma did a tune for the CRD. I recognize the name from my days on TDIClub, I know a lot of TDI owners opt for the Kerma tune for the reason you just mentioned. If you decide to try it, please post and let us know how it works for you.

InMotion offers a programmer too. However, when I emailed them I was disappointed with their response of "Call Us for more info." I always hate that kind of response, because what's the point of 'Contact Us via Email for More Info" if they just tell you to call.

Well I just got off the phone with InMotion, they state the only way to disable the EGR is to install the SEGR mod. So I don't know the source of truth. Kerma says they can disable it, InMotion says no one can turn it off in the ECM. I'd like to simply go with a tune to add a little more power/fuel economy and disable the EGR. I'd hate to buy an SEGR to not need it with a tune. I PM'ed MTB_TDI, hopefully he can shed a little more light on the matter.

It that case Inmotion lies (perhaps they meant to say that they cannot disable the EGR) Both Kerma and GDE can disable the EGR. Kerma does not advertise their ability to turn the EGR off because of concerns about EPA meddling.

He offered up a SEGR "kit" for $150. But that kinda disappoints me. It seems that Kerma is well known in the VW TDI community. But I did find a complaint website that raised a brow to Kerma's dealings.

Ugh. I just want the stinking CEL off permanently.

No, he fully stated "NO ONE" can disable the EGR in the ECM. He was also quick to put down the Kerma tuning saying the file was imported from europe.

I heard back from Kerma and only got a "It's worked so far..." email back when I asked if they could ensure the EGR CEL would be resolved. I understand all the variables to making a commitment like that would be hard. But I just wish I had a straight answer.

I thought with the Kerma you get software that you install to a note book, you then can modity ANYTHING in the ECU. I am just going to stick with the GDE tune, I would rather not do the experiments on my drive train.

So is a European tune somehow inferior?

It sure would be inferior on a European engine with a European ECU :P :P

A comment like that, would tell me that vendor is not the one to buy from.

The imported tune was from InMotion about Kerma's tunes.

Seems like a lot of false info back and forth between the two sides. If I don't end up with a good answer, I'll just go SEGR first. For now I'll live with the P0401. Hopefully at least that means the EGR is plugged closed. I don't understand why it's failing though. It didn't seem stuck last time I checked it.

All the more reasons to get the GDE tune and be happy  After 1500 miles I pulled my map sensor and only found oil :D Back on went the provent with preformed rubber heater hose this time

I pulled my MAP sensor after cleaning it 3000 k's ago and it was caked with soot and that's using the EHM and a blocked EGR :?

Only complaint I have with the GDE is the inability to revert to stock.

I received an email from them though. They confirm their tune wipes out the EGR function. I'm asking now if I can get a clone ECM and send them another one back with a different VIN (I'll buy it from ebay). That'd solve my issue then.

Stock ECU sucks, why would you want to convert it back?

We're still under warranty is one reason. And I always want the ability to go back to stock. I might not ever go back stock. But I want the option to be there.

I've had a history in the past with a ECM programmer on my 99 dodge ram. I really despise the idea of flashing an ECM after that fiasco. Now all I run on it is a "chip". Well that and a boat load of other power mods.
