Got home from work and noticed a leak undder my Jeep and its differential fluid. Looks like its a ctack by the differential. Can something like this be welded back together and if not any suggestions on where to get a new axle and how much they run? Can it be driven?

Front or rear axle? It really depends on where the crack is, how bad it is, and how fast its leaking oil. If its the front axle and the crack isnt bad and its not leaking that much oil I would drive it but not much. Short trips to work may be ok. Hard to say without seeing it though.

How do you think it got a crack? Its possible it could be welded depending on all that stuff Ive already said.

Its the front axle, Semed to be leaking a lot. Went thru some construction on the highway and hit a good size lip coming out of the work zone.

Does NOT work, and yes i tried it. Not while driving though. I had cracked the axel housing and was camping, wanted to be respectful to the area. Taped it, towed it down the hill and waited for a tow truck. The glue was eaten alive by the axle grease goo. I'm a thinker, or a hillbilly, take your pick.
