buy 5 quarts, mine took about 4 and 1/3 bottle. ***MAKE SURE*** you get the filter from the dealership, and make sure it has the o-ring. if you use a different filter you will pay for it, it WILL make your tranny slip & jump. I got mine from the dealer for I think $35. If the one you get from the dealer does not have the o-ring, re-use the one that is in the current filter.

when you have the pan off put the rtv sealant on before you do the filter, that way its nice and tacky when you put it on, I did two small beads around the pan, I like to over do things though.

ALSO use a torque wrench (if possible) to tighten the bolts on your pan. It is very easy to strip the aluminum out.

Slipping & jumping from an aftermarket trans filter? What brand did you use that caused That?

I've used a couple different aftermarket brand trans filters w/ No problems at all on two different KJ's. On an overnight drain on one KJ, I ended up putting 5 & 3/4 qts back in. My personal trick on the pan is to lay a bead around the perimeter of the pan and then I knock it down, covering the entire sealing surface of the pan. I end up w/ a few mils-ish (new word) thick of rtv (Ultra-copper being my favorite) all around the pan and I've never had a leak on a pan after doing way more than I can count on way more vehicles than I care to think about that way.

Don't remember the brand name, ordered through autozone or advanced.
After the change I went on a 1500 mile road trip and had horrible slipping and the tranny would jump into gear. After i got home I drained it and put the dealer filter in, no issues since after 15000 miles.

And note that the torque value is in inch-pounds, 105 I think. That's about 8.75 foot-pounds. There was someone a while back who confused the two.
