large pair of vice grips? Not sure what else you could get attached to it to pull it out. So twisting it back and forth does nothing , you can see the crud that gets in there!

From the pic the splines don't look too healthy so I am guessing the shaft is worn out or not reusable for reliable service for the new cv. I had to remove that shaft today for a neighbor by welding on a nut that my slide hammer would screw into and she came right out. That was after trying every thing else I could think of including vise grips that finished off the splines any how.....

Ok, got it out. I had to take the vise grips and go perpendicular to the ground and tap with a hammer to get it out. The shaft was covered in oil or gear lube. Hardly any dripped out after the shaft came completely out. Below are picks of the opening the shaft came out of and the shaft itself. Boy does it look warn...

Does the oil indicate that the seal is blown?

Seal looks good,it's normal for what happened in the 2nd pic above.Sadly that shaft is toast and you will need and new one from a dealership or try and find a good used one at a junk yard.

Are there suppose to be clips on either end of this shaft? I didn't see any on the shaft that I removed, but probably warn off...

Should be clips on both ends, they more than likely just wore away! Like Troy said the oil you see is normal.

That is a great picture to keep handy to show what can happen if you don't change them out right away.

Wow!!! Thanks for all those photos. I am off to order up my parts here soon. I definitely need to get this taken care of ASAP.

I know we were searching for some part numbers for those clips that need to get ordered from the dealer. Does anyone have those? I am clueless as to what to explain to the dealer to order those clips.

Thanks all..

If you are buying a new intermediate shaft then the "clips" will be on it for both ends ( or should be)

The part number for the snap clips are 05066064AA. I just ordered 2 tday from the dealer. Cost of the clips were $2.20 each + tax.

Also, take your half shafts off in advance and take them when you go to get your replacements. NAPA had a $123 core charge for just 1 halfshaft. Thats double the price of the shaft ( $60 + tax). Good thing I had the old one with me.

I have the intermediate shaft on order from moparpartsamerica.com. Cost there was $155 shipped.

By halfshaft, I am referring to the CV shaft.

Correct , the drivers side does not have the( or what I call the ) intermediate shaft. getting too many different names for the same thing

lol yea, intermediate shaft is what i meant. thats what i figured that it didnt have a seperate shaft on the drivers side, just wasnt positive

the thing that sucks, is when i had to replace my passenger side CV and intermediate shaft, the cv was still perfectly fine, as well as my drivers side, it was those darn "external"splines on the passenger side, sand/salt/mud/water gets in there and tears it up

That's the way mine was on the passenger side. So far, it looks like my driver CV shaft side is ok.

From what I have seen the passenger goes first for sure. Mine just started to make some noise so pulled it right away. But I think if my CV and intermediate were cleaned up, good grease of some kind they could be reused.

Maybe one of those things that they need to be pulled out , cleaned, and lubed every 80,000/100,000 miles :?
