This has become a real problem with them spreading through major hotels and apartment complexes
If you are traveling hotels have to tell you if they have been affected or not.
You can also check here.
Type in the name of the hotel and the city and it will show any reports

Just this summer we rented a condo beachside in Myrtle Beach, SC. In the middle of the first night, one of my nocturnal cousins noticed "dots" moving around on the wall under the glow of her laptop. Upon further inspection, they were obviously not dots but small little bugs crawling all over the walls. After freaking out, she alerted other members of my family. Everyone noticed that they retreated back into the ceiling when the lights were on. A couple were killed for evidence and proof.

Upon checking with pest control, we were told that we had an infestation of bedbugs. We laughed a little but quickly realized he was serious.

All of us thought bedbugs were just fantasy creatures used in a popular nightime saying.

We contacted the realty group that we went through to get our condo and were able to relocate, which was nice. The problem was that we had to go through every inch of our luggage to make sure one wasn't stowed away ready to check into a new condo, or even worse, a new house. I don't know how much truth there is to this, but we were informed that we had to put all of out garments into the dryer on high heat for 15 minutes to kill out any that were in them or any eggs that were in them. Then we had to move everything into a new condo.

It was a royal pain in the rear.

The point in telling this story is that bedbugs are for real and they are the last thing you want to transfer to your home. Don't pass this off. If it is possible, check the site posted above. Before my experience, I would have passed this off also.

I Just thought that was a old saying. Never had that problem and I stay in a lot of different motels. I know of a few around that I wont stay in now. :shock:

We've been warning people about bedbugs for at least five years now. That registry is interesting. Didn't know there was one. But if you read the fine print they say they make no effort to verify any of the reports and can't vouch for their accuracy. Still, if a hotel is NOT on the list, I guess that's a good sign.

Well, again, it isn't a wide spread problem...yet.

You potentially could have stayed in a room that did have a problem and just didn't know it. Most people sleep through the problem. They only come out in really dark places. If my cousin could live without the internet for even just a few hours, she wouldn't have seen them.

I guess the internet saved us. :shock:

People are moving them around pretty quick , they have been bad in the Cincinnati (Ohio) area for over 2 years, just now making there way 175 miles north to Toledo area.
We had one Senior Apartment building that they had to move over 180 people out and fumigate the whole building.
I am real leary about where I stay anymore

No more cheap dives where its 20 bucks an hour :shock:

I used to work at a hotel/resort. They are definitely real. It's an incredible huge pain in the butt to get rid of the little suckers. We had to strip out all the linens and mattresses for the entire building. I too always thought they were just a fantasy thing but they look like ticks.

I thought I remember hearing hotels in new york (and apartments) were having difficulty with them, even the better places. It's not like roaches. They don't care if it is clean or not, they just transport around in suitcases and clothing and eat the guests.

People wake up with bites all over them sometimes. Sleep tight. :twisted:

Move to Arizona or get a dehumidifier.

mmmm they like Az as well just look at the US map and click on Phoenix even the Hilton has had them!

You should go on one of my winter camp trips - definitely no bedbugs there. No people either, for that matter. :lol:

I know,I couldn't resist.
I can definitely relate on the winter camping.Many of times I've been the lone ranger at campgrounds.Sleep soooo good in winter. :wink:

I take Garlic pills too, bugs don't like garlic.
The only time I have had problems (yup I am a Road Warrior) is when my wife comes along.

Best way to test for these things is to bring a heating pad with you.

As soon as you get into the hotel room/ or wherever you are staying, just plug it in, and put it as close to the wall/headboard as you can. Just under the pillows.

Leave it there for a while, then lift it up. You will see them there. They usually live behind the headboards, between the wall and the mattress area. They come to the heat source out of instinct.

Thats how my dad (maint. @ a Hilton) had to check for them.

For the record. Didn't find them there... :!:

Oh they are not prejudice against a low humidity area or to elevation. Saw them first hand at 8000 ft. Nasty little suckers.
