i dont think the rear ball joint is necessary, only if your going to be gone for awhile and REALLY dont want to risk it

The issue with the rear balljoint is that it would be a critical (although unlikely) failure... it's a small part to carry anyways so no big deal.

Sooooooo.... according to that list I should tow a 24' Uhaul trailer behind my KJ with a spare KJ and fully staffed machine shop

That's how we did our Cabo trip back in the mid 80's :D 24' enclosed trailer with an extra Class 8 Baja truck in it, behind a 1T Ford That was totally suspension, IIRC it was like 18" of travel which was a lot then, not so much anymore. All following a Ford Class 8 Truck all the way to Cabo San Lucas for a Baja 1000. :D :D :D :D

Gee, just what country do you plan to visit? Canada?

Seriously a sound mechanical inspection of your vehicle, a Premium AAA membership and a fully charged cellular phone should be enough. If you try to carry all those spare parts & tools you'll have no room for your passengers or luggage.

...oh and a 8' trailer behind that for the parts to fix the other trailer

Actually you are close, that list was compiled by some old friends in Vermont. they have plenty of cash do nothing for a living except expeditions, they run 3 Landrover Defender 90's and 2 offroad DRS Survival offroad trailers, and yes you are correct, but if you take a good look at the list it all makes sence. the last run they made, they left Boston, to South America and back up north West ended up in Anchorage ,Alaska, then back home to Vermont. Nice to have $$$$$$$ :D

if you're coming south to mexico, we have plenty of parts, shops, autozone, dealers, and evreything....

i found moog ball joints too here.... so, for my 2 cents( of pesos), you'll be safe under normal off road conditions, and bring only essencial spair parts. anyway.. the KJ its very popular here....you can find any mopar parts.

if you need some important info about anithing, let me know.

Awesome... thanks!!

I will be on the Baja peninsula for about 3 weeks so my big concern is breaking down in the middle of Laguna Salada or somewhere just as pleasant. I'm sure I'll be asking you a question or two...

the baja are 2 states, "BAJA NORTH & SOUTH". real names are "BAJA CALIFORNIA NORTE & BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR". I have the 2 maps of all kind of roads and highways, citys and towns both are in PDF, and i can get of any state. again, let me know if you want a copy.

Actually the names of the two states are Baja California and Baja California Sur. No Norte in the northern state's name. (Sort of like Virginia and West Virginia in the U.S.) It's a common misconception that only matters to trivia fans.
