Selling your Land Rover was the worst thing you ever did. Like me My Father was an engineer for LR for 33 years. Had 2 Defender 90's in the family. and me the Hard Headed all American rebel Boy with his jeeps. Now you cant buy them anymore unless they are pre owned. I sold the 2nd one after he passed away.. What a mistake.

was a bad idea on my part, but I'm getting either a Newer Ra Ro after college or a late 90's Disco in college for my toy, I always had a crazy idea to lift it huge

Wow, i just came from fiat's site and i can honestly say there is nothing appealing to me or nothing i would like to see in the north American market. i think long term Chrysler could be in rough shape. when they start axing good lineup of cars to replace them with cars like the Panda i think you will start turning off even the true mopar fans off. As much as i hate to say it i have to give it to Ford and Chevy for reacting to the times where Chrysler has in my eyes has done nothing in order to better there situation. yes i think the Fiat merger was a step in the right direction but in no way are they out of the trees yet. i will be the first to admit that i don't like change but when i start seeing solid jeep platforms being chopped for economy box's that thought doesn't sit well in my stomach. I'm all for efficiency, but putting your name on a car that is fuel efficient because you had to save your stupid turns me off to your lineup even more. Chrysler has seen this coming for a LONG time but chose to keep building high HP engines with careless thoughts about efficiency and now it has come back to bite them. just my II cents

I'm pretty confident that Mopar will still look like Mopar, the only difference is that Chrysler is going to get the financial backing from Fiat, including a broader selection of engine technology and other forms of engineering. Chrysler isn't stupid, but they are in a budget crisis which makes them look incompetent.

On the local news here in Toledo they were again saying last night that Jeep will be saving Chrysler. They are not doing away with any Jeep models that were real good sellers anyways. Its been stated many times ( here in Toledo at least) that Jeep will remain what it has been from the beginning, a true 4 whel drive vehicle. They do want to use Fiats world wide distribution to sell Jeeps to markets worldwide. Lots more right side drive Jeeps will be built here in Toledo the local Union President said.

agreed, but the thing is, is why didn't Chryco think about this 5 years ago when they where building 420HP SRT 8's. you cant tell me they didn't see this coming

Good to hear. i think that's what gets me po'd not he fact of losing current jeep models but seeing a fiat Jeep that truly doesn't represent Jeep but i guess we can say that about two in the jeep lineup now LOL

The timing wasn’t right 5 years ago. But I think it’s safe to say that Fiat needed Chrysler to be able to compete with larger “dominant” auto industries and Chrysler needed Fiat just to stay in the game. Ford has been aggressive worldwide, literally steeling the market from the weaker automakers. I think the two companies (Chrysler/Fiat) will compliment each other.

Yeah...but weren't they fun? I agree though. In the defense of the Chrysler employees who actually do the work...keep in mind who owned the company and therefore dictated the management since the mid-90's....Daimler who from what I've heard just considered us stupid Americans and had no interest in listening...and then Cerberus, a private equity firm...many of these places operate by buying an asset and sucking the life out of it, and the tricking a bunch of stockholders into the taking it off their hands through an IPO. I can feel some sympathy for the company. GM...definite case of head in the sand. I spent a summer at the GM tech center as an intern and I'm still confused to this day of what some "colleagues" actually did for their jobs...there was one guy in particular who didn't do anything other than go around and talk to people and then namedrop all of these big whigs he supposedly was in with. Ford definitely deserves some kudos for being proactive. Hopefully Fiat and can help Chrysler.

Seems like some think this "marriage " will be bad for Jeep and Chrysler ( only time will tell ) but I would like to think its a great step forward for them.
Under Fiats unbrella don't they have Ferrari, Maserati, Case and International Harvestor? Not a bad line up.
Then they have the Industrial Vehicle Comapny ( better known as Iveco), a highly respected company around the world for its commercial vehicles. If you follow the Dakar Rallies you will see those trucks as support vehicles and even race some of them. They also build a smaller solid axle 4 wheel drive named the Campagnola.
All of the different divisions share one common engine development group which pioneered the, guess what the Common Rail Diesel (CRD) injection system.
They have made several small fuel efficient diesel engines and we can only hope that they "share" those with the Jeep lineup.
While we may not like the looks of their products , their engines would certainly be welcome to many.

Let me add to Tom's disclaimer:

This is what Chrysler has to say about Fiat and diesel..............

"In recent years Jeep has built a couple diesel powered SUVs (the Jeep Liberty diesel and the Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel). As the fuel economy becomes more of an issue, we look to technologies such as diesel - so keep your eyes on us."

“We continue to explore all types of propulsion options for not only the Dodge Ram 1500 but all our vehicles. Given the current economic climate, we continue to evaluate the light-duty diesel engine program. And now with our relationship with Fiat, there are many other propulsion options we may be able to utilize in the future.”

I'm not very fond of the latest models of the Liberty, they look too much like the Commander did and too much like the existing Dodge Nitro. I'm not saying they aren't good vehicle I'm just old fashioned.

With such a patriotic name as Liberty I doubt the name will be dropped however with non-Americans making the decisions anything is possible.

I would love to have a 4 door wrangler rubicon with a fuel efficient, strong diesel engine. But, I imagine I would not be able to afford it...
