Thanx for all the info man. The more I know going in the better I can make this whole experience smoother.

Since I see no one else mentioned it, be sure to check in with:
http://www.militaryjeepers.com

Maybe the Navy is different, but in most Army units, if you score at or near the "standard", you'll find yourself on extra PT training. The standard is a minimum. The 25th ID used to insist upon 40 pushups on demand, regardless of whether or not you had just done 40 pushups. Worst experience of my life was getting assigned to a company that had a marathon runner for the CO. We ran 6 miles every morning. Thought I was gonna die.

Welcome to the US Armed Forces. Among other things, you'll qualify for an extra $500 off a new Jeep purchase from now until doomsday (or until Chrysler quits doing that).

many of the chry dealers do 10% off, especially around the bases

good point on the "standard minimum"

always shoot for max points! the only thing you should ever have any trouble maxing your score on is the run

I think it's good to have the ability to max on everything but not necessarily do it. I don't want to be the guy that makes it hard on everybody. I want the whole team to do well.

they are easier on recruits than when we went through I'm sure - for the Corps specifically they don't touch the recruits unless it's to remove the recruit from harms way or an "adjustment" - not to say "accidents" don't happen - they still curse plenty and despite what conflicting sources say there's no time out / stress card etc on the Depots

For the most part Marine DI's quit kickin recruits through that little space between the top and bottom bunk in the late 90's

they've made some adjustments there, partially because societys a bit soft and unequipped

Yeah, were on the same page.

Paris Island? I've heard the stories from many who've stood on those footsteps.

Running? What's that? Must be a infantry thing?

You'll want to do the best you can for yourself.

PT testing is individual. Maxing it won't hurt anyone else. Coming in close to the 'standard' will get you a bad day though.
I do remember a few guys that over-maxxed pushups, went way beyond the chart. There are calculations for that. If you can max or beyond, do it. If you can't, nothing wrong with being human.

21st Infantry Regt, 25th Infantry Div. to be exact. I was never so glad to leave a unit in my life.

Yeah!!!! I just finished doing a PT at the recruiting office. Maxed the push-ups, did 45 sit-ups, and did the 1.5 mile in 10 minutes dead. The cold air burned a little but an overall good day! Time for something to eat. 8)
Must be nice to have to do so little,my final PT test in MCRD San Diego was 17/20 pull-ups(true deadhangs,no "kipping"),100/100 sit-ups(in 2mins),and 21:30 for the 3 mile run.

pretty sure most of the PT's they run at the recruiting level are somewhere around the IST's which are pretty much exactly half of the PFT, so a typical poolee PT would be 1.5 mile 13:30 , 3 pull up 50 crunches for a "pass" bare minimum

that would be the Corps cutting score for making it to an actual training platoon, fail it, and you go to PCP (physical conditioning platoon)

the Corps pft score weighed 300pts, 18:00 3 mile , 100 crunches, 20 pullups was considered perfect 300 the run varied slightly with age - i want to say 27:31 3mile was a fail - we didn't give points for over max as you were expected to max everything but the run anyway - the run time was one thing generally all Marines disagreed with how it was set up. Best run time i ever had was mere seconds under 18 minutes which was needed for a batt. placement that I was shooting for. After that the muscle I had to put BACK on just to be efficient at my duties put me back down in the 20-22 minute range.

a good rule of thumb for platoon settings, don't under do it, ever, if you can excel to the point where you stick out , ie: 50 pull ups.. then do 50 pull ups, your ability to shine amongst your peers is one way that you're assessed - ya typically don't make guide / squad leader / honor grad / distinguished grad / top gun - what have you - by blending in ;)

keep in mind too, that when people like troy tell ya what they scored at final pft out of boot, they were most likely broke in some way, stress fractures etc when they scored it ;)

Yut!
