They're doing their best here in Arizona to lock us out, or seriously limit our access to public lands. Check out this land issue article in one of our local papers....

http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/147245

A really one sided slant on the topic which doesn't put us in a good light. Yet another example of some bad apples giving the Greenies more ammunition... but still, they're taking it too far.

I agree with this part of the article:
"We all have a right to access our public land, but nobody has a right to destroy it. Those who enjoy riding off-road vehicles have a right to do so, but only in areas and in ways that don't destroy land, water, wildlife habitat and others' recreational opportunities."

Well, it's in the opinion column, so what do you expect? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how idiotic.

I like the part about how off road vehicles pollute the air we breathe. This person better drive and electric car that emits potpourri, friggin hypocrite.

Off road enthusiasts are not the only ones creating problems in AZ, especially the Tonto NF. It is overused, its proximity to Phoenix make it one of the most used public lands in America. Closing it down is like chopping off your hand because you have a hang nail. Crass, knee jerk reactions wont help anyone and will definetly do more harm than good. I shouldn't be denied my rights to enjoy my public lands because other people do not follow the rules. They need to do something useful, rather than blame and *cough* scapegoat *cough* the off road community.

Thanks for pointing that out! I've worked in the newspaper business for too long. A lot of people seem to be under the impression that newspapers somehow support or agree with everything they print. That's not true in the news articles and it's especially not true in the opinion pieces. The whole point of opinion pages is to give a voice to people who wouldn't otherwise have one, even if they're wrong. (I know a lot of people would say there's a whole lot of opinion in the news stories these days, but that's another issue).

Did anyone look at the video that some extremists made about off roaders over on jeepforums.com a while ago? Basically it portrayed off roaders as ignorant idiots. They basically make an over generalized statement about everyone in a certain group rather then stating the truth that its a small group. I have seen a lot of stuff about tread lightly and how Jeep groups make sure to be 100% responsibly, respectful to the environment as well as clean up others trash left behind. Makes me wonder where all that information is when they say we trash the great wilderness???

Makes me angry as I love to enjoy the outdoors and I know in the town I live in there have to be quite a few hippies looking at my jeep roaring down the street. Oh and you know who help me when my BFG ATs come in and I have a safari rack...
