This is definitly not my area of expertise so plz forgive me before hand if I sound like i have no idea what im talking about... my question is about locking my rear Chrysler 8.25. Aussie makes a locker for the 8.25 in a 29 spline count for the XJ, but i've read that it wont fit the KJ bc we use a C-Clip that the XJ does not. So im asking if I can get my hands on a 8.25 axle from an XJ could i remove the gears and everything on the inside to my KJ axle and be able to run the Aussie locker?

monkyfart13, I would recommend getting the ARB air locker, it's very strong and does the job well. Plus, they make one for the front also. 8)

Digger aussie locker.....

Ok just a little history. My 08 KK had about 15K on it when I order the locker on July 31st. The locker was shipped out that night and was installed by the 4th of August. All was fine and dandy 1400 miles. Out of those 1400 miles, 80% of the miles were city miles (speeds up to 50) , 15% were highway miles (speeds up to 90), and 5% or 4x4 (very light to moderate)..

Now after the install, the diff was filled with a dino 80w90 and driven in the city for 200+ miles. After that, the diff was drained and filled with Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-140.

September 6th - I drove 65 miles out to my friends house for a little get together. While out at his farm, I spun two complete 360 degree cookies in loose dirt while in 2wd with the ESP OFF. After the party, the vehicle was put in to 4hi and driven 1 mile down to the pavement. The vehicle was put in to 4 hi do the it felling like there was excessive slippage of the rear wheels on the dirt and gravel road. I took off from the stop sign in 4hi and shifted in to second and shifted out of 4wd and then let the clutch out. As soon as I tried to accelerate, the locker would disengage allowing the carrier housing to free spin separate for the axle shafts. It was decided that the rear diff would not all me to get home. So, I turned around and went back to my friends house where I proceeded to drop the rear driveshaft.

After my 65 mile drive back home with a front wheel drive jeep, I decided to rip the cover off and inspect the locker. No visible damage was present to either the springs or pins. I preformed the spin test again and I knew the locker had to come out. This is what I found:

As you can see, all of the edges on the teeth of the locker were worn down. The diff was filled with 3 more qts of dino oil and left the KK for the night. It was then driven 20 miles and drain a second time. After the second flush, I refilled the diff with valvoline synthetic oil.....

As per the instructions on the aussie locker web site, I sent them a detailed email on the 7th. Here it is:
On July 31, 2009, I purchased a XD-58229 locker for the Chrysler corp 8.25 in the rear of my Liberty. After less than 2000 miles, the locker malfunctioned last night. Since then, the locker has been removed and the old spider gears were re installed.....

And the reply

We have discovered a defect is some Chrysler 8.25 carriers where one side of the axle shaft holes are slightly off center. For us to verify the cause of the failure of your locker we need for you to go to www.aussielocker.com on on the left side of the page you will see SERVICES. Click on Contact Us, and then on Talk To Our Engineers. Fill out the form in detail and send it to us. We will assign a technician to your problem, and make arrangements from an RMA to be issued. Because of the nature of the past two failures related to the Chrysler carrier your locker will be sent to an independent consultant for review as to the cause of the failure.
We apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced. We have thousands of Aussie Lockers in daily service for many years with no issues such as you experienced.

So, the same email was sent again to the engineering dept on the 7th. On the 9th, I received this reply:

We apologize for the problem you are having with your locker. Your experience is highly unusual and we will require that the locker be returned for evaluation under the warranty.

Ship your locker and pins and springs to:

Torq-Masters Technology
3177 Latta Road
# 401
Rochester, NY 14612

On receipt your locker will be sent to an independent consultant in California for evaluation and processing. Their report on the cause of the failure will be shared with you and we will certainly replace any locker that has failed under the terms of the warranty.

Include a copy of this email and completed form with your shipment.

Thank you

Now, I sent this email to them on the 21st:

Hello again,

I'm wondering if the independent lab company has returned with the results yet....

Thank you,

Between the 21th of September the 12th of October, I called 5 or more time to try and contact their "warranty" person. Finally on the 16th, I was able to talk to a live person. It was explained to me that they felt that the locker didn't fail because of poor design and that it was the fault of my carrier, however they offered to send me a new locker and refund me money for my time and trouble.

On the 19th, a refund of $200 dollars was credited to my account. However to this day I still have not received my "replacement locker" . Numerous emails have been sent and every time I call, I am directed to a voice mail account of casper the ghost......

Total damage ($)
Dino gear oil- 2 gallons @ 13.99 a gallon
Amsoil - 3 qts @ 11.70
Valvoline- 3 qts @ 12.99
Total $130ish including tax and shipping
