I've got a SEGR in the garage I'm not using. I tried it and got some codes and before I could trouble shoot it, I ended up with GDE. PM me if interested.

GDE may find one day that they can't issue a tune that disables EGR. IYKWIM.

Maybe hold on to your SEGR for that day.

That's a good point.

I would think that development on our product/ECM has ceased. I doubt very much if Chrysler will ever release another update unless, of course, they are forced to do so as part of a recall.

:?: GDE doesn't disable the EGR, they make it's negative function inactive... That said, why on earth would this function suddenly, magically, stop working?

If you have the GDE tune, you don't need the SEGR. Period. I'd sell it.

GDE is not affiliated with Chrysler, they provide an aftermarket tune.

Are you 100% sure about that? I'd say that as long as the egr valve is still opening and closing, no matter what the duty cycle it can still fail. In fact if it is closed for longer periods and then opened the soot build up behind it will still be there to clog it up.

The EGR is supposed to reduce harmful gas emissions. The ECU opens and closes this valve during normal operation. The SEGR circuit fools the ECU and keeps the valve closed always. The GDE tune also keeps this valve closed always except for one rare condition where back pressure is released. I don't remember it exactly but it is something like when you have a quick heavy to light throttle.

This function may stop working? No, but if you take your truck in for repairs or recall and it gets a new flash your GDE is gone. Of course GDE will reprogram it but how long can they keep providing a flash that disables a mandated emission device?

Dirtmover is suggesting that product development has ceased and so this may not be an issue. He could be right but why take the chance. Keep the SEGR as a backup.

This is the only reason I could figure it could be needed. If I needed a reflash for some reason the dealer does it without my permission (doubtful since I never intend to take it to them, but you never know). AND GDE couldn't fix it. That's why I wish they could come up with a downloader.

True enough. Simple solution to that, though, is never let your CRD come within a mile of the dealership. If you aren't under warranty anymore, then there is really no reason that you should go back there.

Even if the lost GDE happened you could always get some black tape to cover the orange glow on the dash and run ORM like many of us.

True enough, but one thing to keep in mind is that while running the ORM the EGR valve is powered slightly off its mechanical closed stop, therefore is not 100% closed, also the FCV is slightly powered off its mechanical open stop and thus in not 100% open either, but please don't take my word for it ask Turbo Tim.

I noticed a difference in engine behavior between ORM and SEGR as well. Without the CEL on, the driveability seems better. Not as much a difference as the VW TDI, but it just wasn't as smooth with the CEL on.

Totally agree,

I notice the same thing, once I installed the SEGR my jeep drove/runs significantly better then with the ORM mod. I wonder if when the MAF is unplugged the engine runs in something like a closed loop cycle.... Heck, I don't know, but it runs better, with better mileage an also I went through 4 glow plugs with ORM but after 8 months of having the SEGR on, no more die'n gp's, well, so far......

Noticed the same thing as well, I ran the orm since mile 0 and installed the SEGR this summer with 30000 miles on it, also less soot on the oil analysis.
