Some friends and I ran a moderately difficult trail in the snow last Saturday and the snow made just about everything very difficult. We were in the canyon so long, 21 rigs, that the snow turned to ice and made for some really interesting obstacles.

the guy in the front of this pic with the TJ on 32s had a really really gnarly time making it through, and you can see the black YJ in the very back behind the guard rail, he had to turn around it was so tough
Image
Image

it snowed the night before, not a hole lot, but enough to make things interesting

My buddy Ted in his TJ with 37s getting swallowed up by a mud hole
Image

this is the difficult part of the trail, Bronco Canyon, just a mile long canyon of boulders where the driver can take different lines to make it over the obstacle he chooses, the rigs up front would make the rocks slick by turning the snow to water and then it would freeze and get even harder

Thanks. It was a good time. The white YJ took the same line I did, got high centered and then busted his fuel pump and punch a hole in his tranny pan or oil pan. The group split into 2 after that because we didn't want 21 rigs stuck in the canon fixing one jeep. So the one group went on and finished the trail and the second group tugged the YJ off the trail and got it fixed up. The bummer part for everyone else was that no one else got to take the harder line that I took, because the YJ blocked it. The buggy in front of me took it and then I did and that was it. :D

Overall the KJ did fantastic. I winched twice, one is pictured and the second time isn't. The first time I just got high centered on my belly skid and then my rear long arms. The front tires just spun in the slush and mud on the other side of the rock. I had to winch like 3" and the front tires grabbed and it went right over. The second time, I winched for safety. There was a gnarly ice covered sidehill that ended up in a snow filled rock ditch. Every vehicle either took a strap or winch on that spot for safety. The first jeep tried to go through and slid onto the edge of the ditch then winched out and so on and so on. No one, myself included, wanted to risk rolling into the ditch just to say we were able to make it, even though a lot of us could have. It was getting dark and not worth the risk.

Do you have a thread showing what you cut off in the front unibody?

I'm really glad you all decided to play it safe. We had an SUV roll over at Crown King the other day and it killed all 4 passengers.

I like what you're doing with the rig  Looks like a blast. When are you getting some beadlocks? It seems from the pictures if you aired those MT/R's down to about 3-5 lbs it would help a lot.

BTW did the CJ buggy have a 350 in it?
