that reprogramming can really add 6 mpg's?
that would be 34mpg on hwy...
How why would factory program be so far off?

Driving habits, tire size and inflation, fuel quality, and % of highway driving affect it more than anything. I gained 3 mpg with the tune over stock, but I have some other mods to help as well (freer-flowing exhaust, Royal Purple in the pumpkins) and one that hurts: bigger all-terrain tires. I also drive 80 on the interstate, spinning the mill at about 2400 rpm.

The tune helps, but there is a lot more to it than that.

80mph on the interstate is what kills you... Just for kicks, I drove 60mph one trip, and I managed to get nearly 36mpg. When I drive 70mph, I get 30-32. And, from what I understand, your mpg drops off exponentially from there.

Well don't forget guys that the EGR valve is working under the old tune and this harms MPG as well. The GDE Eco tune cuts that dirty air out and saves fuel... The real question for me is does it harm the environment any more.

I don't believe reducing or killing the EGR is worse for the air. You will emit more NOx, but that requires hydrocarbons in the air to make smog. Now most vehicles are not putting out significant quantities of unburned or partly burned fuel, so smog is not nearly the issue it used to be.

Yea, I don't think the disabling the EGR is doing too much damage... And, if it does, I run on biodiesel, so my emissions are already lower than most gassers anyways!

Back in 06 I think I took my 05 to the dealer to replaced a glow plug when I talk to the mechanic I ask him to do the f37 and told him that the jeep was having black smoke.
Well when I went to pick up the CRD he told me that he did a TSB for the glow plug, replaced the EGR, and did the F37.
Some of you guys have been saying that overdrive lock on 62 to 64 with the F37. Well I have check mine many times and it lock on about 55 to 57 is that F37 too.

Find someone with a scanner capable of reading the ECM and TCM part numbers  Then you'll know for sure what firmware you've got. Vag-com will read them. If your a member of the TDI club there's a data base there of owners of vag-coms who you can contact.

Now Ive read before where you've said yours locks up at 55-57. I think mine locks up the TC in 4th not 5th, at those speeds. Is that your final shift at 55-57?
The final shift for a F-37ed TCM is 62-64 MPH

My dealer missed a flash or two on mine when it was under the 3/36 warranty so I don't put a whole lot of trust in what they say. It also depends on when in 06 you took yours in. F37 was not available when most think it was. As I recall back (lots of cob webs) F37 was not brought out till late summer or early fall. There was one that preceded it in mid June 06 that did raise shift points and decrease power and that's the one that caused the third party scanners to not work and triggered the F31 RECALL to correct it. Mine got both of those and the F37:cry:

You can also check the Jeep website for any un-done recalls or TSB's:

http://www.jeep.com/en/owners/

Just enter the last 8 digits of your VIN in the box below and to your left, and it will show what their database says you need. Unfortunately, mine needs none. :(

just checked mine, tork converter and reprogram pcm/tcm incomplete :D

again thanks all, most helpful.

Joe.......... I remember that my CRD used to go on to the spressway and it felt like it went from 2ed all the way to 5th and after they did what they did the shift went 1st. 2end and so on to 5th. After all of this years my tranny have gone to tc (sun coast) replacement shift kit and IN motion. Now it is another CRD --- PURE POWER.

I have an old version 4.09 with an Alpha-bid cable. Can you explain a little more about which modules to read? I never thought the VAG-COM could read anything off the CRD.

I'm not sure it will work with the older software. Newer (current) software has an option in the right column, something about module info, and that's where it shows up. You may be able to read it through some block(s) but the current software has the option for it along with a "generic obdii mode" that reads most all engine parameters on our CRD's  IT WILL NOT read the tcm, esp or other modules though
