Well here in Maryland we got about 2 feet of snow. Running B-10, no additives added. Truck not plugged in overnite. Temp this morning was 15. She started right up. I might add a cold gel additive if they call for lows at 0 or lower. I do know that she seems to run better on the Bio blend. Just my two cents. :JEEPIN:

Randy, you were fine because you are only running 10 percent biodiesel, 90% dino. IIRC, normal dino diesel doesn't gel until somewhere around 14 below zero, but the stations have all been using 'winter blend' for quite some time now, so the gel temp is a lot lower.

The problem is 'Liberty 2.8' was talking about pure biodiesel in these temperatures. Not a good idea.

I started all this LOL. what I did was start with b99 mixed 50/50 with dino It was in the 40's and not below freezing at night then (a few weeks ago) It got colder and I used some 1/4 or more up so I added more dino to top it off. I was fine on that. Now I have burned all the bio I had in the tank up. I have no additive in now with that. I still have 5 gallons of bio stored in the basement but with it being 18° this morning I'm nervious about adding it anytime soon.

Well everything was fine last night with just the 16 oz of PS to 20 gal of B99. Temp got to 25 and she started right up this morning. But that doesn't mean I will do this again because I sure don't need a tank of Jello. I guess I just lucked out. Mileage actually seemed to drop off though using B99. All city driving (Christmas shopping) but computer says 18 MPG. I'm sure I turned a few heads though with the smell of a rolling Chinese restaurant. :pepper:

You got lucky. PS does nothing for biodiesel. For those temperatures, I would run at least 4 gallons of diesel with your B99.

You'll probably be fine using it as long as you pour it while it's not Jelled and add equal (or better yet about 2X) parts dino-D to the tank with it and drive around a while to get it good and homogeneous via recirculation. It's high percentages coupled with low temps that'll get ya. If you're not comfortable, then wait till spring. No worries :)

I added PowerService at 16 oz. for 20 gal. That is the recommended amount for B20. I think this should be okay since it's not supposed to freeze tonight, what do you think?

Use diesel or a blend for the current tempature. Don't thin your wallet and your fuel, adding a thinning agent cancels the good you do by using bio.

Well, Bio has ~10% less "energy" that D2 so you will notice your mileage drop a bit when using it.

One tank of B99 and one tank of B20 and fuel filter needed replacing as expected. Felt like I had a marshmallow under the accelerator. A quick change of the filter and engine is very reponsive again. :pepper:

Want to see what your tank looks like on the inside? Pour some of that B99 into a jar, add an appropriate percentage (it will be a VERY small amount) of Power Service and put it into the freezer overnight.

Set up another jar, but this time put in a FULL FIFTY PERCENT of regular diesel instead, so now instead of B99, you have B50. Put that into the freezer overnight as well.

$5 says that the B99 with power service alone will be a jar of yellow jello.

Power service is good stuff, but it is NOT effective in pure biodiesel against below-gel-point-temps. Also, winter and pure biodiesel are NOT a good combination, the fuel gels at too high a temperature.

You do not want the fuel in your tank to become jello. I would drive your truck over to the nearest diesel pump ASAP and put half the tank (10 gallons) of REGULAR DIESEL into it, then drive it around to mix that up before going home.
For temps less than 0 degrees F, use 80% regular fuel (16 gallons) and no more than 4 gallons of biodiesel in a full tank to keep it from becoming jello overnight.[/quote]

Some good points by geordi :SOMBRERO:

To clear up a little confusion google found this about stright D2

Diesel petroleum fuel will start to gel up around 10F. It starts to cloud at 32 degrees, which means it is starting to gel.

So the process starts at 32F or 0C

Most fuel distributors winterize D2 before the cold hits.

Yea, I was gonna say something about that. SUMMER Diesel will have those properties, but the winter crap is thinned out with D1 or kerosene IIRC.

While from a chemical standpoint this is definitely true, I've found that a blend of B20 yields my best mileage in real-world use. The addition of Bio seems to make everything a bit smoother (lubricity, perhaps) and I'm guessing the more efficient output curve from decreased vibration energy expended meets the decreasing caloric value of the fuel curve at about B20 :)
...and smells better regardless.

I mixed may last bit of bio last week its been cold here and with some PS at a blend of about b20-25, no issue at all.

I believe that PS is good in bio blends up to b20 I have to look at the lable again.

Only Arctic Express Biodiesel Antigel, if you can find it and it will not effectively treat B100 fuel according to PS web site :SOMBRERO:
