Hey guys, do you know if its possible to turn off the ESP completely in the KJ. I was reading the JK Forum on JeepForum.com and came across this thread
http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f96/turn ... ff-928240/

Quote:
The following procedure will disable (or re-enable) ESP (Completely) functionality in the Vehicle:
1. Shift the transfer case into the 4H range position.
2. Turn the steering wheel until it is centered and the wheels are pointed straight ahead.
3. Cycle the ignition key OFF to ON.
4. Wait approximately five seconds for the system bulb check.
5. Turn and hold the steering wheel one-half turn to the right (clockwise).
6. Press and hold the ESP OFF button for seven seconds.
7. Turn the steering wheel back to center, and turn and hold an additional one-half turn to the left (counterclockwise).
8. Press and hold the ESP OFF button for seven seconds.
9. Turn the steering wheel back to center.
10. Press and hold the ESP OFF button for seven seconds.
11. Cycle the ignition key to OFF.
After performing the ESP disable procedure correctly,
“ESP OFF” will be displayed in the odometer for approximately
12 seconds each time the ignition is moved to ON.
Repeating the ESP disable procedure will re-enable normal
ESP operation.

i tried that a million times with no result. if you want to completely eliminate it there is only one way. pull the ABS pump fuse in the engine bay. this will disable the ABS which controls the traction control.. therefore eliminating the traction control completely. it will however light 3 warning lights on your dashboard. i just covered mine in electrical tape and forgot about them :) nothing like freedom finally.

thinking about putting a switch inline of the ABS and having it inside the jeep somewhere.. so instead of pulling a fuse i can just flick a switch to completely get rid of the traction control.

nothing like a locker and no esp for winter fun

haha, Apparently if you have the latest flash, it works for the JK Wranglers, so, I figured I'd give it a shot.

If you go ahead and put a switch, which is definitely possible, I read that when you flip the switch to turn it back on, you have to restart the truck, to reset the system. You can't just do it on the fly.

I tried this several times yesterday afternoon and didn't get any indication that it was doing anything. No chime, no esp off, no nothing.

I am grateful for having a snow packed surface for all that turning the wheel with no power steering.

Or you could just do what I do and press the button when using 4x4. When ever there is snow out I turn it off, even if Im not in 4high because I find it not only annoying but also makes the jeep unpredictable. Any other time I leave it on.

^ Personally, I find waiting at a stand still for 10 seconds while the ESP turns off to be ridiculous. I'd love to find a way to wire that thing so I press the button to turn it ON.

I do it on the fly. I just press the button and no more issues.

What's the Fing point of the ESP OFF button since it absolutely does NOTHING ?! You don't know how close I've come to getting a hammer and smashing the darn thing just for the satisfaction of doing it. I want it OFF when I press OFF. Otherwise this button is making fun of me, and the $20+grand I spent on the thing. And it's supposed to be a Jeep! I know it's not a Wrangler... but COME ON!!! FU Chrysler.

i've looked and looked and looked and the only way to do it is to pull the fuse (for KJ's) dont know about KK's.

i just hated how it wouldnt let you slide even when you wanted to... and even when you pushed the button to turn it 'off'. i'm still very happy with no ESP or ABS :)
