Howdy,

Everywhere I've seen people talk about replacing the rear diff oil in a KJ they say that you must use the special friction modifier that you can only get from Jeep. Well, lurking around my local auto parts store today I had a quick leaf through the Penrite application guide and they say that you can use their Synthetic Gear Oil 80W-140 which already has the aftermarket friction modifier in it.

I've no idea whether or not Penrite's stuff's available in the US, but does anyone know if this is right? I don't know how expensive this stuff is (they didn't actually have any in stock!) but knowing Jeep's pricing their specific friction modifier's probably going to run to several hundred bucks a bottle.

Cheers.

I don't have limited slip in my rear axle, i just used gm synthetic axle lube in my front and rear diff. it's really good stuff apart from the price, it costs about 15 bucks a quart

Friction modifier for LS clutches and clutch lockers. Regular stuff (syn or non-syn) for metalic parts because modifier makes it tacky.

Lockers can work worse with Tacky friction modifier, test it and see. add 1 tube, then 2, then 3, see how it gets worse with every tube.

So far my locker works best with regular 80w-90

My axle called for 75w-140 syn

Yup, many synthetics have the midifier already in there. Purple stuff (Royal Purple) has it too.
