That's exactly what makes this video cool. A less capable vehicle towing out the purpose built rig. If it were two built CJs...no biggie. Two KJs...no biggie. But the sight of a KJ pulling a built CJ through the mud, uphill, and onto flat ground is awesome.

Awsome is a matter of taste, I guess...I'd be more "impressed" with the implicit claim of superiority if it had been a level playing field.

The title of the video is lame. Seeing a KJ pull a CJ out of the mud is fun at best. I would have liked to see the KJ drive through the mud hole and then watch the CJ get stuck and then pulled out by the KJ. Then maybe the title would be better suited to the video. Then again, who cares?

It is funny what will get 2 pages of responses here when some pretty cool posts just dissapear w/ only a couple replys.

DID the KJ go through the mud hole that day? Considering the video, it had not gone through it yet.

But the point isn't about the mud hole and whether the KJ or others could make it through. Every vehicle is completely different after it has been tinkered with. If the TJ/CJ whateverJ had an old component break, it was due to the age/use of the component. If he changed the air box to one that is less water resistant, it would cause him to suck in water and kill the engine. Doesn't mean his Jeep was any less than anothers.

I was intrigued as to why the other vehicles, that were in the background, didn't try to do the dirty deed of strapping the guy out. Why did the KJ do it?

I didn't read through the rest of the replies to see if somebody else already adressed this, but the KJ would likely have been one of the better vehicles to do the pulling.

I know my TJ (in summer configuration), even skid-plated and guarded, is still more than 500 pounds lighter than my KJ. The KJ's extra weight and length makes it a better choice for a decent traction "pull" situation.

Try reading some of the other YJ/TJ/XJ/Rubi (an so on) sites. They aren't real flattering to us either and neither are many off road mags. But I do agree...we need to be above this bashing crap and take your rig out there and wheel it. WHEEL WHEEL WHEEL, that's what its all about. Friends, scenery, fun, and 4x4 regardless of make...however I always have and will love the Jeeps, REGARDLESS OF MAKE, and will always own a Jeep, and will always wheel a Jeep, and will always believe that there is only one... 8) Thats my rant, but y'all know what I'm talking about :D

I with you. Put touring tires on H2 and let it try to pull a F250 out of a hole like that while it's sitting partly on gravel and the other part on dry hard ground and bet we would see some wheel spin and a few trys. I've gotten a 1ton farm truck(flat bad, no load) stuck axle deep in barn yard muk and it gave our dual wheel John Deere a moment of "I think I can.. I think I can" before it yanked it out.. But without know if it had lockers, type of rubber or grandma behind the wheel.. we can only "assume"..

I have to agree...10-4

Okay, I'm fine on the concept of people being curious about whether the Liberty could do it. But the whole "built v. bought" thing implies a competition, when absolutely none took place. If I owned the CJ, I would have been a little miffed by that implication. And if I ever encountered the situation in reverse (Liberty stuck, especially the video publisher's Liberty), it would be tempting to say something like "Well, I'm only a CJ, not a Liberty...built and not bought...so I probably can't help."

My Liberty is a surprisingly capable vehicle off-road. But even one like mine with a lift, larger mud tires and a LS rear probably isn't as capable as a purpose-built CJ, even taking into account that the driver is 75% of the capability.

On that same note.. a not built for that purpose mule (yes, the animal) can go places, climb steaper grades without help then a CJ  I didn't take it a "Us vs Them".. It looked an off the shelf KJ helping a modified CJ that got into trouble. Trying to stir up any other kind view is just trolling. Rather owning a KJ or not. If you want to stir up the dust.. hop over to www.hondasuv.com and go to the CRV section and have at it..

a word on SNATCH straps versus TOW ropes.

Snatch straps are designed to work like a rubber band. They expand to allow for the build up of energy, A LOT OF IT, in the rope.

What did I just say?

The proper way to use them is NOT to take all the slack out of them and then pull slowly as if it were a fixed chain. If you really need extra pulling power, like he did in this case (because the stuck Jeep is really stuck and also because the KJ had poor traction), then the better way to do it is to take a (modest) running start. This should sling-shot the stuck jeep out nicely.

Warning: BE CAREFULL doing this. There is a huge amount of energy there. Ever see those pics of the strp and recovery point through a jeep's windshield? That's what happens when you use too much energy and mount it to too weak of a location!

Momentum is your friend!

You can learn all about SNATCH STRAPS and more in the FOUR WHEELERS BIBLE. It's an excellent resource for anyone that uses their Jeep offroad.

hey guys ,new guy here . i've pulled out a cj before with my 02 libby as well as a cherokee . thats the only two jeeps but i can not count the chevys, fords, dodges, toyos and others i,ve pulled out with not much problem. i live in florida and sped a lot of time on the beach as you could guess from my user name and we always try to help out if someone is in a bind. we have a big tide change here from low to high so if someone gets stuck at low tide and we don't get them out it's reallll!!! bad . the one cj i pulled was trying to pull a dead car across a bad fluffy spot in the sand and belly out , we passed by and saw them , turned around and hooked to the jeep. i pulled the cj and the car till he got good tractoin and slacked my tow strap. moral of my story; always good to help a fellow jeepster because when you need help he's probaly the only one who could help you. p.s. one realy cool thing about pulling out the cj and dead car was when we passed by all the croud at the dry spot was this guy on a cell phone which my wife heard as we passed by saying "no i don' think we can make it ther's jeep's pulling jeep's pulling cars here i'll see you at the road"

Exactly. A Subaru doesn't even have a real 4-wheel-drive system. All it has is an aluminum drivetrain built for snow. It would grendade if it tried to pull this CJ out of a hole.

The Liberty in this vid has lots of weight, and a real drivetrain. And that is why it was able to accomplish this task. You guys would be surprised at how difficult it actually is to pull a rig out of a mud hole like this.

Congrats to that KJ!!

I've used my wife's Subaru to pull someone out of mud at the side of the road before, and while the slope wasn't as much and there wasn't a tree hidden under the mud, it wasn't a big deal even though we were on gravel.

As for not knowing how difficult it is...I'd guess that I've pulled several dozen vehicles out of stucks like that, mostly using an Isuzu Amigo (about the same weight as a Libby), some with a Unimog (about twice the weight!), and once with the Subaru. So, no offense intended LibertyCRD, but I doubt I'd "be surprised."

Still, I don't want to poop on anyone's party. If it makes Liberty owners feel good, fine. But if the CJ/Wrangler guys are reacting to this kind of "In your face, CJ!" thing from Liberty owners, I can partly understand why they'd label Liberty owners whiners. That video just doesn't represent a "face" moment to me.

There always has to be that one person who just loves to be heard. With as many posts as you have made, a person would have thought that it would be understood that this site is a place where the liberty can be celebrated. And as far as liberty owners being whiners, well Sir I would have to disagree. I have been on the trails with almost every make and model of 4wd made (except for a Subaru, I wonder why) and not once have I every heard that comment. The most popular is "man I didn't think that a Liberty could do that".

And I would expect a Unimog to be able to pull anything from out of a ditch (its a freakin tank on wheels). I have to admit that seeing the little stock libby pull the not to bogged down Jeep from the mud put a smile on my face and that is all that this video is about.

Not trying to start a war and I will not respond to any more posts on this thread. I just hate it when someone finds joy in taking a dump on someones fun.
