So, I finally get around to going to the dealer to get my front drive shaft replaced under 7/70. everything is cool until the service writer asked me to step into the bay so he can show me something. First, he explains that they are going to replace my driveshaft anyhow, but that I need to remove my lift as the lift changed the pinion angle and ruined the driveshaft. Umm. The front diff. is still in the exact same location in relation to the transfer's output shaft as the diff. is attached to the subframe and did not change when lifted like the diff on a solid axle would have. He then says that yeah, but the REAR pinion angle changed, which ruined the FRONT drive shaft.

Ummm..... :dizzy:

But I do get my new shaft, installed, for the deductable. I just have to go back as I did not want to leave the jeep and ( no surprise) they did not have a 3.7/6spd driveshaft laying around.

Nice.....

A week ago I took mine in for a coolant flush(I was feeling lazy plus it was like 10 degrees outside).Had the appointment made for 9am,showed up at 8:30am,was 9:30am before my KJ was signed in and all paper work filled out after answering 1000's of ?'s from the service writers.Told them I was waiting for it,well after 3.5 hours(1pm now)I asked is my KJ done, one of the service writers went back and checked for me and when he came back he said all the techs where still all laying under it and all amazed. At 2pm it was done and they did not charge me for the flush(it was done though).Think I need to take it back more often, free stuff rocks even if I have to wait forever,I'll just have to bring my laptop with me next time for something to do.

Typical.

When the job was complete I'd have him step aside and tell him he was full of chit.

The service writer here (Mike) owns a TJ and wheels on the beaches in the N.E. (so he sais) and seems to understand and empathize with my wheelin' ways and has always been straight with me....I just hate the cost of parts and labor

In 99 I bought a new Jetta TDI and the steering wheel was slightly off while going stright ahead and I told the service writer about it  He said that "once the springs settled in it would be fine  That's been almost 10 years and close to 150k miles and they have not settled in yet :-)r

Service writers are the first problem car dealers need to address  Some are good but many are not so good

On our 05 Ram, the steering box was shot @ 6K. It was one of first rams to be serviced for this problem in tell the TSB came out for it. The service writer tried to sell use a $50 rotate balance telling us that was to the only way to diagnose the problem :juggle:

Most of my 25 years in a dealership was in the role of a service writer, constultant..whatever the hell they call it now.

I was always up front and straight with my people. There is absolutely no reason to lie or even bend the truth if you want repeat business.

I've lost a couple of those jobs simply b/c I would not 'follow the company line' by not being totally truthful.

Actually, that's the main reason I'm not in the automotive world anymore. I can't stand all the BS they want you to shovel to the customer.

Most likely he told you that b/c he didn't know and the tech bs'ed him into that explanation.

Good thing is ...not all dealerships are like that. But it's like finding a good doctor...they can be few and far between.

I had a bit of the same problem recently with my CV issue at 52K. The tech tried hard for some reason to blame it on the lift kit.

It was actually Mr. Mudd's comment that he had 90K on his with no issue that was helpful.

That and the fact I've had 5 Jeeps and I asked him if he ever wanted me to buy another one from his dealership?

I have worked at 5 or 6 GM dearlship's in the past 16 year's as a mechanic, dealership's are the most unregulated, greedy, dishonest, business you can possiabley imagine !!! The owner's are usualley super cheap, and very well off !!! A lot of dealer's will use aftermarket part's instead of factory or OEM !! A typical service manager will want you to work for free, if you are luckey enough, you might get half of the book-time call's for !! Most of the time in GM dealership's coustmer pay job's turn into warrenty job's, it's called "GOODWILL" witch pay's half of what the book call's for in an effort to kiss the coustermer's _SS to get a good CSI survey !! :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Has, anyone ever noticed, on you'r bill from a dealership they will charge $10.00 to $20.00 in quote " shop supplies" then if you look at your bill there will be charge's for brake fluid, coolant, PS fluid, etc. YEA !!! It's called GREED !!!!!

Interesting! I always thought "shop supplies" was for things like shop rags, floor sweep, GOJO, Liquid Wrench, etc. That's why I'll be doing my 30K mi. maintenance, especially since it's out of warranty. Besides, I like working on my KJ and saving money. :2cents:

After working as management in Tire stores and Ford Dealership as a wrench /then Service Manager back in the 70s and 80s I don't take anything in to any of them
Ford Goodyear Firestone are all pretty much rip off artists or used to be anyways
Since 1972 I have bought 19 brand new vehicles ( rest were used ) and not one of the 19 were ever inside of a dealership, after they wash them and once I lay down the cash and they drive them outside the door they NEVER go back inside. Guess I have been lucky as well that no warranty work was ever needed on any of them !
