The Liberty came with a few Nav options.
1. the RB1 built in with the radio
2. The NavMate. stand alone unit.
This unit is no longer made and no longer updated. it used CD's.
Here is a note, all new Garmin Nuvi units have a $119 life time update option now.
Tom Tom units that are new enough cost $40 a year to stay current.
Most Facotry unit that NavTeq support will cost you $199 to $379 per year to keep current.
So for $100 to $300 you can get a nice Garmin unit with Life time updates.
That is the best deal. This can go from car to car.
You can even get maps for other countries as well.
Yes that is so true. I may not have bought it in mine if I had to pay for the option from new. Since I have it I like having it build in.... There are some advantages of having it built in.
1 its always charged up and ready to go in the vehicle.... you cant forget to take it with you.
2 No cords no suction cup mounts.... my Navigon's never ever stayed on the window more than 20 or 30 miles most of the time un like the siruis radio mount.
3 less chance of it being stolen... I know several people that have had theirs stolen, usually the thief breaks a window that costs you 2x as much as the navi to replace and you have to fix the window and deal with that unpleasantness.
disadvantages.
1 upfront cost added to new car
2 can't move to differnt car.... not that I care as I only have the Jeep.
3 higher cost to update...... but I think we may see this trend change as aftermarket navi updates get cheaper the onboad ones should as well becasue they want consumers to buy them and not shy away because of higher on going costs.
