I found calibration instructions using Google.

Yeah, that's what it was referencing. I'd agree, on ebay there is plenty of new, go for it! I'd just avoid a used torque wrench from anywhere, just me. Just throwing that out there, not saying anyone mentioned used. I looked at ebay and did see a bit of used is why I said it.

Thank you for the advice, all.

I decided that the SnapOn is more than I can spend for a while, but I don't want junk either. Reading some reviews, it seems like the Husky torque wrenches from Home Depot are a good middle-of-the-road product and have lifetime warranty. So I stopped at Home Depot today and saw that they have a 3/8" driver which measures 20-100 ft-lbs and a much larger one, 1/2" driver which measures 20-250 ft-lbs. They cost $75 and $79, respectively.

I am wondering if:

a) the 1/2" driver will be less accurate due to its greater range of measurement.
b) the 3/8" will not be enough.

What on a KJ would require more than 100 ft-lbs? Which one would you suggest?

The 1/2 drive one.

Just remember as a general rule of thumb that for ever one inch of extension on the torque wrench(a extension for the socket that is) you add 5lbs-ft of torque over the rated spec.Try and use only impact sockets if you can, better torque then standard sockets.

X2. I had a 3/8 a long time ago and always wanted a 1/2. And that's what I got.

So, since a 10" extension is needed for spark plugs on a KJ, I would have to torque them to 70 ft-lbs (50 ft-lbs over the 20 ft-lbs specification?

Why on earth would you use a torque wrench on a spark plug? They just need to be snug.

Oh and I stated that +5lbs-ft for every inch of extension is just a general rule of thumb and not set in stone and is generally for the higher torque stuff that is 150lbs-ft+.Something with low torque specs as a spark plug would be a exception to that rule.

I've never changed them before and didn't want to screw up. Thanks for the advice.

For the average Joe, that's just going to use it occasionally to torque suspension bolts and lug nuts, the Harbor Freight 1/2" dr. will sufice. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... number=239

I have that one. No complaints so far.
