I posted a couple pictures of the Jeep in my intro thread, but today I went out and got some more, with a little dirt, haha.

good question.. haha. before i bought the jeep, i didn't think i'd ever really need/want 4 wheel drive.. just really wanted a bigger vehicle (previous was srt-4 neon, lol)

also came down to the 3000 in negative equity (trade in/loan payoff) when i bought it.

really wish i woulda went with 4 wheel drive now though, even though i probably couldn't have been able to afford it, but o well..

i'll just drool over the pictures on here, and try and find some 4WD Jeep owners and become friends, HAHA.

Hey with a locker and really good tires, that 4x2 will still get you places! Welcome to the KK family.

yeah.. even though its BRAND new, i've already been looking around trying to find a locker. haven't found one app specific yet, and i have to do some more research, but i'd really like to get the KK a little off road capable if i can.

obviously it wont be a major/moderate off-road vehicle, but it would be nice to be a little more confident to take it to some areas i've been looking at.

ARB

Other wise, all you need is a locker that will fit a chrysler 8.25 29 spline axle.... I would also advise staying away from lunch box lockers

haha, yeah, don't want the front to sag... no, originally, i planned on keeping it looking brand new and lookin real purdy for a long time.. figure it will help keep the front end nicer during the winter/ sandy-windy spring...

yeah, ARB is one that i came across in my search.

I 'think' i found a couple of lockers that worked for the corporate 8.25 29 spline.. i know there are different types, just like with LSDs (clutch and gear) I know in the LSD scene, gear is more widely used, but not sure about the locker scene.. I think it was Detroit Locker and Powertrax maybe that i came across.

excuse my ignorance, this is all new to me. haha.

heres what i found: ARBhttp://www.4wheelparts.com/Drivetrain-Differential/Airlocker-Differential.aspx?t_c=12&t_s=237&t_pt=5589&t_pl=406&t_pn=ARBRD93

PowerTrax http://www.4wheelparts.com/prodDetail.aspx?partNo=PTX9203822905&jeep-parts=true

from what i can see, the ARB is the best, but also needs the air compressor and all that jazz. also seems to be the most $$$.. about 1200$ or so for a full setup.

detroit locker is right in the middle, around 600$

powertrax is at the lower end at 460$.

im thinking i should make a thread on this next.

That power trax won't work since the early 8.25's were 27 spline. I think the switch to 29 spline axle shafts happened in 02 or 03.....

Post out in the general forum to get the best amount of responses...

Welcome, and I completely agree with this. My KK is brand new and I haven't started with any mods yet but I did put ARB lockers in my 99 Wrangler that came originally with a limited slip rear diff. The difference was amazing. It is like you are super-glued to the ground. Even though I had lockers in both the front and rear, I rarely used the one in the front (besides, it is hard to steer with the front diff locked). If you have a locked 4x2, there will be some situations where you may be able to go places where an unlocked 4x4 will have trouble. I'm not saying your locked 4x2 will be better than an unlocked 4x4 in all situations, but it could be in some situations. The locker would make a big difference and it would be somewhat of an equalizer.

Another thing that the lockers helped with was they prevented the sudden lunging forward that happens when you are going downhill in moguls and the weight shifts between different wheels as you move forward. That happens very fast and the first time it happens it scares the #$@* out of you. You suddenly lunge forward a short distance until the slack is out of the drive train. It's like you were going down a steep hill using the compression of the engine to slow you and suddenly you pushed in the cluch or took it out of gear for a second and then put it back. With lockers, that is totally eliminated. I think that would also happen in a 2wd setup.

While ARB lockers are more expensive, they do have a few advantages. First, the locker is only engaged when you want it to be (not true with automatic lockers) and you have an open diff when it isn't engaged (open difffs make tight turns easier). Second, you can hook up an air hose to the compressor and air up your tires anywhere.

Cool pictures by the way! :)

Believe they switched to the 29 spline in 98 or maybe 99.

Besides that, you can lift it and not worry about front CV angles, etc. So you can get The look and better performance even w/ only 2wd. Then just learn your limitations and have fun! Lots of great destinations out there that you don't need 4x4 to have fun.
