Flip it over!!!!

don't transport your boat right-side-up.

Why wouldn't you have it cock-pit up? most saddles are made to carry them that way. All the kayak shops I know carry them that way too...

Sweet looking kayak, can't wait to see better pics an hear how it floats.....

if you have a tight fitting cockpit cover, no problem... carry it upright.

If you don't have one, you leave your cockpit open for various items to collect inside your kayak during driving. Most importantly... water. With your boat filled with water, it can easily exceed the rack's maximum weight causing damage to the boat, rack, or roof of your car. I have seen the aftermath of this happening.

Good point! I do agree and highly recommend a cock-pit cover, but I do believe his is a sit-on top so not much could be built up.... I've tried carrying mine upside down but felt it was less aerodynamic ( not that carrying them can be good at all ) so I went with pit covers an are much happier....

Is Malibu a pretty popular kayak? Looked at their 2010 2 seater kayak and really like it. You could move the seats if only 1 person was going to be using it, thats pretty neat. No where close sells that brand though. Really just started looking at them so I know nothing.

Yes, it's a great brand. It's one of the top kayaks for fishing. I found mine on craigslist for dirt cheap, brand new... just a couple of scratches.

Rich: Mine is a sit on top, so I'm not too worried about it collecting water. It fits much better this way and feels more secure... I'm not sure if it is good or bad for mpg, but I'd imagine that the mpg difference is far more significant with a sit in kayak, where air can get trapped, than with my sit on top.

Short of the seating area, the only thing water can do is go through the scupper holes. And besides, I live in AZ. When it rains 1/2" every other month, you tend not to worry about these sorts of things. :SOMBRERO:

That said, once I recuperate some funds (kayak+paddle+pfd+seat+rod/reel+fishing permit+car carrier+car slick pad+storage hooks = :5SHOTS: ), I will probably get a cover... mainly for aerodynamic purposes.

Part of my family is... and all of us are longtime Sox fans.

I have an obsession with things red. What with the Sox and the fact that I grew up a Florida State fan (in Tallahassee) and got my B.A. there.

When the weather gets better I'll post pics of mine. I have a 14" Pelican Sit-on-Top fishing kayak. I love it and my Libby!

How in the world did I miss this thread? It looks like you found good options for you. I have Yakima cross-rails with rail-pads covering the whole area. I can strap a single kayak (cockpit up works fine for SOTs) down by just placing it on the rail-pads, or lift up the kayak-stacker bars and strap up to 4 kayaks up there.

Here are some picts of the Yakima Rails and Kayak Stacker in operation...

Rails (shortest Yakima makes) and stacker bars alone (they rotate down when not in use)
Image

One kayak (tandem) loaded cockpit up with dry-bags strapped into it for transporting (Kayak is my buddy's Big Yellow Monster)
Image

Two kayaks (tandems) loaded (Kayaks = Wilderness Systems 13T, and my buddy's Big Yellow Monster)
Image

Three kayaks loaded (Kayaks = Cobra Play, Ocean Kayak Scrambler, Wilderness Systems [can't remember model name])
Image

Four kayaks loaded (Kayaks = Cobra Play, Ocean Kayak Scrambler, Wilderness Systems [can't remember model name], and my buddy's that I think is also a Wilderness Systems)
Image

One big ol' canoe loaded (Wenonah Prospector 16' White Water)
