Hi,

I have an 08 KK Limited and sometimes I will get a single chime from the instrument cluster with no text or alert light to go with it. It seems to happen about once a week, at various times, once when i was driving, once when I was stopped, etc. has anyone else had this happen and are there any suggestions on what I can check? Thanks in advance.

Scott

how's your gas tank when this happens?

Sounds to me like your low fuel warning, and coincedentally the lightbulb is burnt out.

You have a Limited, so you have the EVIC don't you? Can you press the top right (on the steering wheel) button twice, then the down arrow? This will bring up any system warnings - including tire pressures, and it might say "low fuel"?

IIRC, the few reports of this are related to the fuel level warning even thought the fuel is not low....

Do you have a full size spare with TPM sensor? If so check the spare tire pressure.

Thanks,

RabidRdKill, I have a full size spare so i'll check this, its gotten cold recently so maybe its just that.

Diggerfreek, whats the fix for that? I think they updated the software ~6 months ago and it never happened before that so could it have something to do with the update?

BrendonR, the gas tank is at various levels, right now its around 1/4, i'll wait until it gets low to test the functionality of the bulb. I do have an EVIC and currently I need to get the oil changed soon but this happend before I got that warning and there are no other warnings listed

Not sure if you're metric or imperial, but my light/warning chime seems to coincide with the "50km to empty" level - try running your tank pretty dry to see if it works out. Could be a combination of the warning chime when not actually empty AND the light's done.

so you need an oil change soon? but your EVIC doesn't ding saying "oil change required"? :?:

I can't remember the process, it's on here somewhere (digger will likely post it up), but have you tried re-setting your gauges? There's a sequence you can run [something akin to: put key in ignition and turn "on", honk the horn 4 times, spin around in a circle, then a circle the other way, all while singing the hokey-pokey :jester: ] which'll run a diagnostic test on the guages and reset any problems.

OR, your jeep could be simply saying "hey! Check out that sexy camero up there! 12 o'clock!"

*ding* indeed Jeepy - *ding* indeed :pepper:  :pepper:

LOL :ROTFL:

I don't know if it will reset any thing but here is the gauge test...

1. Enter the jeep, shut door.
2. Put on the emergency brake and tranny in "Park"
3. Hold down trip button.
4. Turn key to "ON" position and let off the trip button.
5. You will get a light show along with dancing gauges!
6. Do not start the car, Once it is done running its system checks the gauge cluster will return to normal and you can be on your way!

This has been happening to me (along with the gas-bath) for two years now. The ding was eventually followed with a check 4wd light in the cluster coming on and sometimes staying on and sometimes only for a couple seconds. My friend who works at the dealer scanned it and found the 4wd motor on the transfer case was bad. It's a little motor that takes the electrical signal from the switch in the console and turns it into a mechanical action to put in or take whatever engages 4wd. After it was replaced it worked fine for a couple of months and started doing it again, this time with no light or code in the scanner. He suspected it may be a door close sensor, as he's fixed a couple of those on some grands. We monkey handled the doors and liftgate while waiting for the ding but got nothing. That's not to say it couldn't be the cause of your problem, I'd definitely try it first. Just pull and wobble the doors (while closed)and listen for it. Whatever it is, it's happening too fast for the computer to log it in as an error. Hopefully a light will come on soon! It's driving me crazy. Well, I'll keep you posted as I learn more....

Thanks digger, it looks like all of the bulbs are working properly. I also checked the spare and it was 25psi @ 40degrees, i dont know what the setpoint is but im thinking its either 24 or 28, its been down to the 20's and 30's the past few weeks so maybe it was the spare, but the question would be is why it didnt prompt me on the evic.

Brendon, the evic does show the oil change reminder but it didnt need an oil change when the issue first started. its also in imperial and i usually get the low gas warning below 30 m to empty

ab xj, i'm going to check the door sensor but havent yet.

Thanks again

very interesting indeed...

FYI - the low tire pressure point is 28psi (as i recall from last winter) - cold tire inflation on the stock 18" wheels (which I assume you have with your Ltd.) is 33psi. Pump up the spare to 33 and see if the ding is still there?

Good luck :?

Thanks

silverstars are much better than stock, try amazon to get a cheap price on em (h13) they do not make silverstar ultras in h13 so dont waste your time looking for em haha

Agreed - The silverstars ARE quite a bit better than stock...

On that note though.... they're still not good enough imho. Having done alot of dark highway driving lately (ski season :seuss: ) they just don't cut the mustard. On a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being good), our stock headlights probably fit in around a 3, the silverstars.... a 6. They DO have one benefit over HIDs though.... they're street legal.

yes silverstars are legal, i myself converted to HID's, if in your area they aren't so strict about them, deff buy one of the ktis you see on the board there are tons of threads about cheap sellers

Yep! My 2009 Liberty Limited does this. Random chime from the console. Sometimes once a week, sometimes not for a couple months.

Tire pressure and fuel are fine, no warning whatsoever from the computer. Nothing recorded. Driving and environmental conditions are never consistent. It just happens- a single chime.

I had a 2005 KJ which never did this... It's not a huge annoyance and seeing your post confirms what I thought: it's just another Jeep "feature" just like the rear window and sunroof seals that leak slightly in a high pressure car wash... Or the NAV can't access it's hard drive once in a blue moon because of an incompatibility with its' Samsung hard drive.

I used to seriously stress about stuff like this, pouring money into my 2005 attempting to ferret out every issue. But then I learned a valueable lesson when my KJ barely made it to 100k miles with everything breaking; these vehicles don't last forever and that's why you don't spend the 40k you would on a Four Runner.

So I just enjoy mine for what it is; a great looking vehicle that I got for a great price that's useful and fun to drive. I will enjoy while it lasts even with the chime.
