Anyone tried the goodyear authorities? I think they are a wal mart exclusive. I looked at them today and noticed they are a 10 ply Load range E and seem to have a pretty aggresive tread pattern. Anyone know anymore about them? For $150 a tire, thats see,s like a pretty sweet deal. :SOMBRERO:

I came down to them and the Duratracs when I was looking at tires. I actually bought one of the Authority's and took it and sat it down besides the Duratrac . I ended up with the Duratracs for not really anymore and they just looked better to me.

If you do a search there was a discussion regarding them on here.
Jeep Forum does as well as most all 4 WD forums

The lowest I have been priced for the dura tracs is $184 at Discount Tire. Wally world wanted $205 a tire. Kinda cool to hear that you almost considered buying the Authorities, even though they are a Wal mart exclusive tire. :seuss:

So, doesnt look like one person from this site has tried the authority yet? I read the review. Looked like a review of what liberty owners thought about wal mart. Not how the tire performs or reviewed the specs of the tire at all. I mean, it looks aggressive, it's a 10 ply and load range E. What else would I be looking for? Looks to me that it would perform great in the snow and mud with the space in between the tread and will probably do great in rocks for the same reason if my common sense serves me correctly? I dont know much about exact specs on rubber or steel belts, etc. But this looks like a well built tire, same as dura trac or an mt/r. What makes them so different?

I remember a thread a while ago where some dude accused Walmart and GoodYear of being in bed together and moving defective and untested tires through a Walmart brand. He claimed these tires were going to kill anyone who bought them. It got pretty long but it was a bit toolish. :-)r

From what I have read on other forums Jeep. Ford, Dodge, Toyota, the Walmart Authority's are doing a pretty good job. Haven't heard too many complaints at all.
Like I said I considered them and when looking at them not much difference but something I liked more about the Duratracs.
Also since the place where I finally bought saw me comparing they offered to match Walmart pricing. Funny thing is a local Goodyear tire dealer first had never hear of the Duratracs then wanted over 45 bucks more per tire for them.
If you can play one against another you can get a pretty good deal. I bought through Tireman

I think the biggest gripe on the Authority's is just the fact they are sold by Walmart...........

I look at them every time i walk through that section of walmart

that's about as far as it's gotten

I have to admit, they look alright

As to what happens after you simply stop looking, i have no idea

there's a guy that lives across the street with a XJ with a set and they're wearing funny but that's probably just his pile

Thats the reason I didnt get the Authority's. I was concerned about the tread wear. If their anything like boggers they will wear quickly on a daily driver. I would be concerned about wet road conditions aswell. If they are anything like boggers they will suck on wet road conditions. In my opinion they seem like a milder version of boggers thats the only reason I compare them. Anyway thats just my :2cents:

HUGE difference between these tires and Boggers, not even in the same type of tire or anything else. Boggers are a wide open mud tire pure and simple, anyone running them has to know they would wear out quickly.
The Authotity's and even the Duratracs and some others out there now are more of a cross over tire, Think Mud and AT combined. They have an open tread but with siping in the tread blocks etc. to make them excellent in snow, etc
But comparing them to a Bogger is not even being fair. They were designed for mud boggers is all, although some think its cool to run them all the time .

That funny wear has everything to do with the rig and almost nothing to do with the tire. Look how many people wear out MT/R's in a short time while others get great wear ( with proper care ) out of them.

I would try the Authorities if I could not get a good deal on the Duratracs. They are both part of the newer AT/MT hybrid design that probably fits how most of us actually use our tires better, anyhow.

Yes I've seen MTRs after 25000 cupped out so bad they were unsafe , then you have say Chris who has 50,000 miles on his and are still nice and flat across the tread

Its all in how you take care of one!

I used to run boggers on my DD just because i was in high school, went mudding 2-3x per week. and I didn't have enough money for 2 sets of tires after spending ALL that money on those Boggers.

I got 20k out of them, rotating every 2500 miles (how often I used to change my oil) ran like hell in the mud, loud as heck on the street. drove like butter covered nylon donuts on wet roads.
