Its raining in Southern California and my 06 CRD has just been visited by an electrical gremlin that I thought only resided in my 1985 VW Camper or my wife's old Lucas infested MGA, the horn has a life of its own. I was siting in the house and the horn went off, not like the panic button honk-honk-honk but hooooooooooonnnnnkkkk without end, until I disconnected the battery. Then I looked up the fuse location and pulled the fuse & reconnected the battery.
Have had no such problems fin the 46K miles I have put on 2 1/2 yrs ago when I bought it with 20K miles on it. Summer before last I had it 1,000 miles of unpaved road on the Dempster Hwy and it happily survived the dust storms of Black Rock Desert NV.
The internet is wonderful and a search indicated that this problem does happen in various Jeeps including the Liberty.
Now in a few days things will dry out and it will 'probably' be OK (is there a smiley for 'fingers crossed?) but I am wondering how to check out the system (how do you find a short if there isn't one? Dump a bucket of water under the hood? And is there anything I should be doing in a preventative way for the wiring system?
Oh, in one web post the owner took the Jeep in and the dealer replaced the BCM but I don't think that is the issue for a horn. I have a SEGR but have not yet installed it, if I had I would have assumed I comprised the system somehow.

Check your key too in addition to pinched wires and the other items in the FSM. Mine has gone crazy and all it was, was the button on my key was being pressed by other junk in my pocket. Another problem may be some crossed signals from some one eases Key remote or other item.
My wife's TDI once went nuts when some one was visiting a neighbor and kept pressing the lock button on their remote and set off my wife's alarm.
Another time I pressed my lock button to lock my CRD and set off the alarm on a Subaru, my wife and I laughed all the way into the store.

Good Luck

So now the big rains have ended and I discovered that the fuse box got very wet somehow. Got the key red light that there are electrical issues, no surprise. So I pulled out tall the fuses and dried the fuse box with a hair drier, charged the battery, put the fuses back in and it started up. After a few minutes the key red light went off. Everything works again. :pepper:  :pepper:

I will have to figure out how the water got in, no obvious leak. When the door is open water does come in but that doesn't seem like enough to get everything wet.

Well thats good to hear! I wonder if you have a leak around the windshield.......of course, it could be any number of things.

Great, first rain of the spring, and I get woken at 5:20 in the morning to the horn of my KJ. In a stroke of irony, I had ordered a remote key fob since I bought the KJ used with 1 sentry key, but no remote. And it came in yesterday as well (uncut and not paired with the Jeep yet), and was within range of the KJ in a pile of mail. So I have both halves of this thread covered in 1 day. The odd thing, is the horn wasn't stuck on, nor was it regularly going off and no lights were flashing. It had a randomness to it. I'm not sure if that's how the alarm sounds anyway, if it has one.

Not sure what to make of it yet, water leak, or cat stepping on the new remote? I'm guessing water, since I unlock the door (horn still randomly honking, with no lights flashing), start the engine, and then the horn stops. I go back inside, and 2 minutes later it starts all over again. So I run back outside, unlock the jeep (still honking), start the engine 3 times (it stopped twice (not that I was waiting for glow plugs), but still keeps honking with no lights flashing)...so I scramble for a wrench in the dark and pulled the battery cables (due to an incident with air in the fuel filter, I keep those in the cabin). Ahh, quiet again. I'll have to look at the relay & fuse boxes, but I'm guessing somewhere else, since it wasn't the typical short. It really sounded like someone was impatiently waiting to pick someone else up.

Sure beat a cup of coffee to get the heart pumping in the morning.

I had the same thing happen to mine.Turned out the sunroof drains were plugged and the water was going over the sunroof pan, right down the side, passing through the fusebox, shorting out the horn relay.

If you have a sunroof, check there first for the water culprit.
