Hello,

I'm in the market for an 06, 07 or 08 Liberty in the near future. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me things to look for or avoid. I'm aware of the window issue. It looks pretty easy to fix on my own so I'm not too worried about that. I know the 08 is the new body style. Other than looks and interior are there any big differences between the 07's and 08's? I want to use the truck a lot for just driving to work but I also do a lot of beach driving and towing so I like that they can tow a lot for their size and they seem to be pretty capable off road so that's awesome. I'd love to find a CRD but I think that's going to be difficult. It looks like most of the stock libby's don't have hitches. I'll need to put a class III hitch and a 4 prong harness on her if she doesn't come with a hitch. Is that going to be in the 2-300 range? Thanks for any help I'm excited to be in the club!

ps does anyone tow with a Patriot? I kinda like these for the miles but I need to tow between 1500-1900 lbs so I'm a little concerned the Pat is too small.

I like my '05 because it doesn't have the new "safety" systems on it like some '05 and '06+, like ESP.

I know many people love their CRD's but just be prepared to do your maintenance and repairs yourself. It sounds like there isn't anyone, even at dealerships, that knows how to work on them.

I'd look for rust at the bottom seams of the doors, undercarriage, 3rd brake light and body seam above the rear flipper glass, etc. My biggest fear with my liberty is that it will rust out before I'm ready to get rid of it (never!).

Other than that, towhooks run about $150 for 3 I think, skids run about $250 for a set of 4, the rocker guard tubes are not worth paying more, Roof lights cost a few hundred bucks, so if you want any of that stuff, keep an eye out and factor in future expendatures.

Learn the differences between renegade, limited and sport and know what you want.

After owning a chipped (Inmotion soon to have a GDE HOT tune) CRD I wouldnt even consider a gasser. Im getting 30+ MPG around town and 35+ on the highway. That and the truck has TONS of power! I can burn rubber with both tires from a standing start on dry pavement for 20+ feet! 650+ miles on a tank rocks!

awesome sounds good. I'll probably be getting a gas Libby but I'm just keeping an eye out for a diesel. I think they're pretty solid trucks. Does anyone on here tow with one?

I tow with my gas 07. ive had 8k behind it. Max payload by jeep is 5k. Itll easiy do 70mph with a trailer and another jeep in tow. It an auto to boot.

I have had some issues with my 07 that most dont seem to be having with the older ones though so maybe older is better

8000 lbs that's awesome, that's 3/4 ton truck territory. My rig's only about 2000 so I should be fine. It sounds like there aren't a ton of issues with these trucks just normal stuff, so it should be a good commuting truck as well as weekend toy?

I will tell you not to buy one as I am very unhappy with mine ( you cna do a search) but many others are perfectly happy with thiers.

but in regards to towing what the liberty can handle is impressive for the size.

Buy an `02-04 model. Seems to have the fewest issues.

At the moment, there are more aftermarket parts for the KJ than the KK. I have a 2007 and haven’t had any problems others than window regulators. I think the KJ is a very well built Jeep with very few problems.

Before you buy check the rear boot on the front drive shaft, if its cracked ripped or missing make them replace it. that is a very common $400 repair. other than that plan on a HVAC module......$26 from dodge. Another problem is lower ball joints but if you can find a nice dodge garage they will put it through warrenty several times before they yell at ya for the lift. lol. other than that buy one and get out there. I live, I ride, I am, not impressed with the new slogan.
