Hi everyone

It is normal when you start your engine in the morning that fan makes a strong noise at the moment you accelerate, but after some minutes the noise disapears, as far as I know this is the fan cluch.

Since 3 days ago the fan is still making this noise at all time at any condition, normally when I accelerate the engine makes the gear change as normal, but now if I push the pedal to accelarate the fan increase their revolutions and sometimes I can hear the belt making noise due to high speed.

Does anyone knows what could be happen or had similar problem?

The temp gauge shows as normal

Thanks for any help

sounds like you have the standard fan *not electrical* with fan clutch and the clutch is froze up

i'd imagine there a bunch of tension on the fan if you went out and tried to spin the fan with your hand with the engine off and warm

probably just need a R&R on the fan clutch

it's not a freak occurrence, happens from time to time with mechanical fans as they age

Recently I had the water pump & clutch fan on my Liberty replaced during some routine maintenance. It wasn't overheating but the mechanics must have recognized something. I didn't object since I had a full coverage service contract on it.

Once they replaced my clutch fan assembly I noticed the roar you're speaking of even when you'd assume the engine to be cold. It now sounds like I have a turbo under the hood :pepper:

So relax, the noise you hear is perfectly normal.

It is not normal for the fan to roar at all times, more so in the winter. Like you said it will roar at start up but once the viscous fluid in the clutch warms up it will stop roaring. If youre sitting in traffic a lot it will roar some also, which is normal.

Exactly, As you mention Jeepjeepster

This roaring sound at start up is normal and also in a traffic conditions, but since some days it becomes "normal", I mean I hear always :?

I didn't check for DTC yet, I will do it today to know if there are any

Other thing is that the gear change happens at high revolutions if I suddenly accelerate, around 3500-4000 RPMs, not normally around 2500-3000 RPMs

My KJ is an '05 LTD 4x4 (Gas)

One week ago we went to the beach, the KJ was overloaded with many things, back to city in some up hills I get the Trans Temp ligth in the cluster, I stopped for a couple of minutes then we continue without any problem, 2 or 3 days later the roaring sounds still at any time.
