I noticed that when I put the KJ into Part Time (this weekend's snow for example) then take it out and get going over 40 or so, the whole KJ starts to vibrate like crazy. First time it happened I thought I got a flat it was so bad. Turns out that Part Time won't release fully until I put it into reverse for a few feet or so. then it's fine. Any ideas?

Hey, I noticed something like that with my KJ, 125K. If I take it out of 4 High, it drives kinda rough, so when I make a full stop and a red light or something, I cycle the gears into park to 1, once or twice, and it goes away.

Hope this helps ya, Steve

it's real common on the 242 transfer case if there's any mismatch front to rear
i.e. tire size/wear or pressure difference is enough to cause a problem.

(the lever pushes a spring which pushes a gear - the lever can be in the right position but if the gear shaft speeds aren't the same it won't shift - sometimes into gear - sometimes out of gear)

sounds like the typical wrangler roll'it back solution for the 231's,

if your rear tires are worn quite a bit more than the front, or same with a left or right tire being worn more, the 231's will often have trouble coming out of 4h or any other 4x4 mode until you stop and roll it back a few feet, or put it into neutral works occasionally

once the drivetrain unloads it usually falls right out of 4x4 and you're good, only had it stick in 4high once but other than that so far haven't had the ol wrangler roll back issues with mine

I have had that problem from day one. All I do is drop the main tsace into N and let it roll a few feet then put it back into D.
