Hi all,
A few months ago I brought my Liberty in because the speedometer stoped working. This was while it was under original warranty. Well, now it is not working again so I brought it back in yesterday. The dealer calls me today and asks if I take the truck offroading and crossed water. I said I go offroading but have not been in almost a year.
He cracked me up with his quuestion. The truck is meant to go off roading. I also travel a 2.5 mile dirt road to and from my home and if it rains I hit puddles. I am waiting to hear back from them today. It better be under warranty.

All joking aside, I would hope Jeep will honor your repairs. If need be, walk him to the left front fender of your KJ and ask, "Is this a joke?" That should set him straight.

Hi all, I picked up my Liberty Friday at the dealer after they called me and told me it was ready. I no sooner get on the highway and look down and the speedometer is not working again. I can't believe these people. I did not actually look at the speedometer when I first got in vehicle.

They are stating to piss me off. This is the fifth time this Liberty has been in for the same problem.

Doesnt Michigan Lemon Law state that after the fourth failed repair in two years the dealer does something like replace your vehicle?

That sux. Not that your in AZ, but the lack of quality service you've received. I think you need to contact the DC (Jeep specific) Zone Office in Phoenix to complain about your experiences. They (the zone office) usually will investigate complaints. Good luck & let us know what happens.

I had a problem with my speedo (no not my bathing suit, me in a speedo that just too disgusting to think about!!) and it turned out to be the wires to the rear. In my 2002 it appears the speedo is controled by a sensor in the rear located at the top of the differential. The e-brake cable rubbed through the wires and shorted it out. Popped the connector, taped the wires, and the speedo works again. Something to look at.

Hi all,
Well mu '04 Liberty is in shop again for the same problem of speedometer not working. This is about the 6th time it has been in. Well, today service rep tells me they think there is water in the rear diff. I ask is the rear diff not sealed? He says yes. He asks if I do a lot of puddle jumping, etc. I say I live up a 2.5 mile dirt road and when it rains i go through puddles.

I thought this Liberty is trail rated and able to ford water?? I am about to tell my wife I want to trade it in.

You guys are going to think I"m nuts.......but that's OK. My wife's 2002 Town and Country Van kept having problems with the speedo. No one could seem to fix it. Then one day, it didn't sound quite right starting. New battery fixed everything. There's su much in the way of electronics in these new vehicles, even a weak cell in a battery can cause weird problems.

I think if you talk to most people on here they have done some amount of water fording. I know I personally have gone through water up to the bottom of the doors and had no issues. There are others here that have gone through water up to the door handles and have not had issues. I would hazard the guess that this is a rather isolated issue. I'd go to a dealership I trust, raise your concerns to them, and have them fix it right before I gave up and called it quits on my KJ. That's me though and I love my Jeep. Good luck with your KJ.

Hi all,
I went back to dealer tonight and he did not have good news for me. He said I have water in the rear diff and thats what is causing the problem with speedometer. He also states that this is not covered under original warranty or extended. I said the dam thing is trail rated, can go through water. He gives me a bunch of doo doo and basically tells me it is not covered.

What gives???????????? I am at a loss and am in a very bad mood. At worst case it will cost about 2300.00 to fix it maybe a little less if some parts don't have to be replaced. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kevin
